General Schumi back bumper

Hey guys,

Some oap idiot has banged into the back of my schumi whilst it was parked in a private car park. He has knackered the back bumper, it isn't dented but it is severely scratched. He left me his number and I spoke with him and he said he didn't want to lose his no claims but said he would pay me if I get a quote.

Do you think I should visit the Fiat dealership where I bought the car and gt them to sort it or just visit a random garage nearby?

Would you just get a replacement bumper? What sort of quote am I looking at?

Well he has done the right thing by you and willing to pay for the repairs you dont need fiat for this kind of job and any decent crash repair paint sprayer should be able to do it..you shouldnt need a new bumper unless its cracked scratches can be sorted out easily just remember you will one day be old as well I myself hate driving these days and would be quite happy to pack in driving but for the inconvenience it gives me gotta drive a 600 miles round trip later this week and tbo I'm bloody dreading it..I hate London the M25 puts the fear of god in me..

you gotta give the guy credit for owning up how many of us would.
Just go to a decent accident repair center i wouldnt imagine that to cover scratches would cost more than about £250

That's really unlucky but as peope have said, at least he owned up to his mistake. It's good to know that there's still people out there who will!

All I'd say it to make sure you don't get any work done until you've got the money in your hands. If you get a quote, he agrees, you get the work done and then he refuses to pay... you might find yourself in a tricky situation with your insurer if you then try to go through them as you'd already had the work done without their approval.

Also good advise from you.. I had a similar situation once ..was just about to go on a night shift when next door neighbour knocked my door ..a nigerian girl had driven into my car and written off a wing ..she wasnt waring shoes and no doubt had no licence or insurance.. but she said I will pay for the damage ..now to cut a long story short she payed up in the end but she ran me ragged trying to get the money out of her ..it all came to a head when I told her I was going to the law ..and by the time I got back home she was there with twenty+ big black guys if they had spears and shields it would have looked like zulu dawn.. she handed over the cash and I gave her a receipt saying she had payed me..Phew

I say this because the 'shock' of the impact can induce crazing in the paint on other parts of the bumper and these are not always immediately apparent and can emerge over time.

Quite right but any half decent place will tell him that at the time of estimation ..and thats what he will be working off when he gives the old fella the estimate..you dont think for one instance a paint sprayer would just flash the part thats damaged .. the whole bumper will need prepping and spraying and most people would realise that..

You dont want to paint the entire bumper. They deliberately don't do that wherever possible. If you paint the entire bumper, you should then blend the paint on the panels next to it otherwise you will see the difference in paint where they join. Also most body shops wont use specialist bumper paint so it likely to crack/ peal after a couple of years.

GO TO A SPECIALIST BUMPER REPAIRER, NOT A GENERAL BODY SHOP.

Thanks for all of your replies. I have been looking for a specialist bumper repair place nearby and found a chipsaway fairly close and also a specialist bodyshop centralparkbodyshop.co.uk

Any of you guys in Hampshire who can recommend some place?

In the day light I have noticed a slight crack along with the scratches and yes at least the guy owned up. Some of you advise a whole bumper change and other do not?

Sorry for all the newbie questions, I've just not had a prang before!
