Which is the quickest? A Punto sporting 1.2 16v 80bhp(mk2) or a saxo VTR 1.6 8v(90)bhp. I think the Saxo may be a little quicker on take off but the Punto seems to keep on going when the Saxo runs out of steam. What do you reckon?

I would suggest otherwise, big engines => can go to a higher top end.

Checking the stats:
Punto:
Engine Size: 1242 cc
Cylinders: 4
0-60 mph: 10.6 s
Power Output: 80 bhp
Valves: 16
Torque: 114 Nm
Torque: 84 lb/ft
Top Speed: 107 mph
930kg

Saxo VTR:
Engine Size: 1587 cc
Cylinders: 4
0-60 mph: 9.9 s
Power Output: 90 bhp
Valves: 8
Torque: 100 lb/ft
Top Speed: 116 mph
920 kg

Or 100BHP spec:

Engine Size: 1587 cc
Cylinders: 4
0-60 mph: 9.1 s
Power Output: 100 bhp
Valves: 8
Torque: 100 lb/ft
Top Speed: 120 mph
920 kg

Statistics agree.

I dont think there would be too much in it- 0.7secs to 60 which is hardly anything on the road. Because of this I bet a decent driver who's used to the Punto's gearing and power bands could beat the average VTR driver ;)

And the Punto Sporting looks a whole lot better (not helping performance but oh well!)

VTR has more torque so should win due to better mid acceleration, theres not too many spots you can reach top speed so this doesn't matter to me too much.

we allowed to re-map the punto

never driven a saxo, dont think i would want to, but on paper it faster, guess it depends on driver and set-up as to who would win head to head
