Which is the quickest? A Punto sporting 1.2 16v 80bhp(mk2) or a saxo VTR 1.6 8v(90)bhp. I think the Saxo may be a little quicker on take off but the Punto seems to keep on going when the Saxo runs out of steam. What do you reckon?

OK. Boys just reckon that there VTRS are alot quicker than my Punto Sporting. If so I would not say there is a big lot in it.

I doubt the Punto keeps on going because the Paxo's top speed is 116mph and the Punto's is 107mph..........But ive never driven either so cant comment 
Driven my sisters VTR and it seems a little quicker off the mark but I feel that the punto would give it a good run.
buy a punto mk1 1.6 8 valve, might have more of a chance

I dont think there would be too much in it- 0.7secs to 60 which is hardly anything on the road. Because of this I bet a decent driver who's used to the Punto's gearing and power bands could beat the average VTR driver
And the Punto Sporting looks a whole lot better (not helping performance but oh well!)

what you haven't taken in to account is how they are geared, ie how quick they go between certain speeds in certain gears. See the AA road tests for these figures.

My Nova (basically same as a VTR) used to leave my mate's mk2 sporting for dust, at any speed. The car is a lot lighter and has more HP.

we allowed to re-map the punto
never driven a saxo, dont think i would want to, but on paper it faster, guess it depends on driver and set-up as to who would win head to head
