Now then, I have always professed to my Selecta being relitivly rust free on body pannels. But then I found this; :eek:

I found this behind the wheel arch liner of the front nearside wheel when I removed it to start the rust on and around the wing area which is as follows

Externally;

Interally (under the wheel arch cover;

Now I'm beginning to think that this is going to become a headache (esspecially the root around the end of the sill :bang:

Could I please have some tips on how to sort it, and idea's on different methods of rust treatment for the other area's. I've already got the power sander out and sanded down the metal work, and put rust preventer on it, although it will need another coat because this was done in London last week, and it's rained alot since :rolleyes:

Also, I could smell petrol around the charcoal caniter and noticed it looked like I had a leak;

Is this normal? Also the haynes manual reacons its a serviceable part which should be changed. So should it, and should I get a replacement?

Thanks in advanced for all the help guys (y)

Time to get the welder out, me thinks.... How are your skills of fabrication?

I'd guess the sill would be an MOT failure so will need sorting properly, i.e. welding and not filler. The wing depends on how long you want it to last, and how much money you want to spend.... I had a similar issue on my old Mini, and I found myslef chasing the rot. In the end I replaced the wings and the A panels.

OMG :bang:

Well my welding skills from college are nill (well ok, the weld holds, Just)

I'll get our mechanic to have a look, because he's done all the other welding when it's needed it.

But you'd be surprised how well hidden it was by the wheel arch liner! It passed the MOT about 4 weeks ago! :p

Replacing the wing and a Pillar though :eek:

:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

Definitely worth welding in new metal and whacking on a coat of zinc primer. If you want to use my welder you're welcome to visit, though you'll need to bring some metal.

Many thanks for the tip, and offer of using your welder (y)

But I think I'll get my mechanic in Yarmouth to do it. Got to book the 750L in for an MOT and am planning to do that tomorrow, so will call in with the Selecta and see what he says he can do (he has a soft spot for our Pandas :)).
