General Running Problem

Hmmmmmmm......looks a bit flat to me.
Mine looks similar. When i said "prick" wot i should have said was "a def point"
Anyone else agree??????
My theory is if its got a flat end, as soon as you wind it out it goes from "no air" to "loads of air" very quickly. I.E. very litle fine ajustment.

Dont think im talking crap as alan said it should have a point too.????

Im happy for anyone to correct me as iv only seen screws from other carbs.

Just to throw another one into the mix.... Have you checked the Vacuum Unit on the distributer. The rubber can split and/or perish also the linkage to the dizzy can wear or come adrift. Just some thing else you can check.

It's dificult to say I've tried to zoom into the pic but it doesn't help much.

The screw on the left has a dark patch a couple of mm from the tip and looks as if it's been overtightened at some point the one on the right looks ok but unsure if there is a little burr at the tip which may make a difference?

Unfortunately the sisley is running perfectly and I don't particularly want to unscrew the needle to find out

If you get the chance at a new old carb for £10 grab it, they are near £400 at the dealers now after webber doubled their prices a couple of years ago.

Good suggestion but I fitted a new vacuum and pipe recently so that's ok.

I fitted the spare (right hand) screw and it was marginally better, it started at least (not easily though). I would be surprised if this is the main problem though.

I think i'll need to check I put the timing belt on right and it's not a tooth out. I'm not holding much hope though, after all it runs nicely when it does start. Any one ever have the timing belt a tooth out? How did the engine run?

Both of those idle mixture screws are fine. They're not meant to be pointed at the tip. They come with a flat end, as the hole they go into is quite a bit larger than the tip, so a point wouldn't serve any purpose apart from to stab you when you take it out. Have you fired compressed air up the hole where the screw goes?

I stripped my carb right down and fired compressed air everywhere. What's the manual? I'll read through it when I get home. Is it a Haynes carb book or something, doesn't look like the Panda one.
