I ran out of diesel half a mile from home, got it home just by running it till it conked out, let it sit for a bit go again.... last few meters were on the starter motor, poured in 20 litres of straight veg oil, manually pumped it for a bit several minutes of cranking and it fired I miss that van

i did say i was intending to pull into services right ? lol. as for stupidity i was under the impression that seicento fuel gauges are a tad optimistic on how low the fuel actually is ?
well now i know otherwise.
oh and did explain why i was running it a tad low so i could swap out the slightly leaking tank. (it was in the boot at the time).

AFAIK it's not an offence in the UK.
In the circumstances I'd have thought it sensible to carry a full can - what were you planning to fill the new tank with once you'd fitted it?

i have 3 at home but valeted car couple of days ahead but to be honest there cheap as chips anyway and there nearly always available in a petrol station.
