Hey all, bin a while since I was paranoid or had a problem with Tipo but I got something to ask about now :p

My Temp Gauge shows that my engine is running a bit warm at high speeds. It used to run dead on or just below the 90d mark above 80-90mph.

now its like 2 or 3 notches above that which is the point just before the fan is meant to kick in. The weather is not hot either and it still used to be cooler in warm weather.

I have started doing a considerable amount of motorway journies now because one of my friends has moved away and she don't drive and only comes down on days when I'm usually at work.

I don't want to break down.

I was thinking maybe I need a new Radiator... or water pump :( how do I cheack the water pump?

Thanks guys :)

wha does your coolant look like? when was the system last flushed through? actually i've never thought about it but when running high speeds the temperature hasn't really increased much on my car. and since i've fitted a tacho. the high speeds are at a much higher than normal (and probably healthy) rpm.

My Coolant is Redish/Pinkish Used AntiFreeze/Summer Coolant in there.

I have always found that Tipo ran a lot better and a lot cooler on plain water.

When I started using coolant I noticed the engine fan started kicking in a lot more often and a lot sooner then usual.

But I don't remember it running hotter at high speeds. The wind used to keep it down or something and also, now when stationary the heat build up a lot quicker.

Engine is not broken yet but I would like to avoid having to replace my trust one.six :(

3 things.
Radiator is silted up and needs a clean out.
Thermostat is faulty.
Waterpump is faulty[unlikely].

I would look at the radiator. If the fins are a bit broken, then the air will not be entering and cooling the coolant. So it will need a new radiator.
Check the bottom pipe when hot. It should be hot at both ends.
What you can also do, is fit a dash mounted fan overide switch with an inline relay. Easy to do and will not take long.

Well The Thermostat is relatively new consider the age of everything else. I change it once already when I was paranoid the first time and I still had the same problem (Which ended up being a faulty fan switch)

Heater blows hot and fast all the time.

I haven't noticed any excess water or squirting around the engine bay and if the pump works on belts then it would get hot only when stationary and remain cooled when fast but its hot when really fast.

I'm going to go with RADIATOR!

Can someone tell me the difference between and Intercooler and a Radiator because they look the same to me, I just presume the Intercooler keeps things cooler.

Would installing a low end (Cheap and not really cold) one cause me any troubles? or should I just get a standard Radiator? Also, Should I get a Genuine Fiat Replacement or any that fit. I've heard stories about cheapo patent part radiators exploding when hot.

You can get what they call an "AMAZON" raditor with a double core. I would leave the Fiat dealers well alone. Use a local radiator dealer who can recore your old one or supply new alot cheaper then the dealers.
Dont bother with an intercooler type at all. Not worth it on your car.
