Not getting what I feel is similar symptoms from the other threads previously posted in Ducato.

It is a vibration that has cropped up within the last two weeks. First noticed when climbing a fairly steep hill in the Black Forest. On right-hand bends, it seemed minimal but on left-hand turns, it appeared more prominent.

Since then I didn't really pay attention, I just thought this was the cause of FWD and steep climbing. But I can say that when I think about it today, I have noticed a vibration at take off when the clutch is beginning to grab the plate.

Now I am on the autobahn and notice it obviously in 5th gear, at cruising speed of around 2000 RPMs on a flat motorway. When I shifted down to 4th it appears again around 2K RPM's again. At this speed rolling with my foot off the accelerator pedal, IT GOES AWAY? Now I get this RUMBLE all the way down the gears at 2K RPM's but only with a light foot on the accelerator.

At first, I believed it to be the CV's or The Wheel Bearings, but since it goes away when there is no acceleration - rolling at idyl - I'm not sure now.

Any input would be appreciated. I am now on a rest area on the autobahn with 100Km to my destination where for the next full week I can do better diagnostics and not have to 'roll-in-the-wee'! Do you think it is not too destructive that I could make it 100k's? Thinking to get down to the "B" roads and take it slow.

I hope someone has solved this vibration issue and can send me some suggestions from experience.

Likely causes are failed engine mounts or a failed dual mass flywheel. Hope the former for your wallet's sake :)
Ian.

I got behind the intake air filter canister and leveraged the mount with a solid 2x4 and there is no looseness, that's the trans mount on my engine compartment. I also had a look at the rear and the right side mounts, all appear in good order, both replaced within the last 24 mos. as I have been chasing a kind of "tock" clunk sound at the moment of inertia after breaking to a stop on an intersection. I have no growling from the CV's in either turn direction so this too has me stumped.

Can you expound on the dual-mass flywheel potential failure? It may help you to know that this "low rumble" that I am hearing/feeling from somewhere under and in front of the drivers seat (LHD) is intermittent, except that I can induce the condition just after clutch engagement if I give it a lot of throttle. There is no clutch slip, its solid.

These two conditions may be related, but they are not obviously exposed by any looseness or otherwise. I have aggressively shaken and stirred almost everything under there related to drive train and suspension.

If anyone has had these similar symptoms I could use your input.

Thanks!

Can't be anything but engine related, including clutch which moves at engine speed. Engine and gearbox mounts can be the cause even though seemingly OK to look at. I would be inclined to get a proper diagnosis before throwing money at it. I had all sorts of trouble with a rear engine/gearbox mount touching chassis under certain throttle settings. My unit is the "auto" version with dual mass flywheel. Don't know if yours is manual or "auto" or whether it has such a unit. They can give all sorts of symptoms when failing.

Wow, I had the exact same problem also while climbing in the Black Forest earlier this year. I also sometimes notice a distinct rumble while turning sharp to the left. We stopped by the Fiat dealer in Strasbourg, but they found nothing. I have a 2005 Ducato 2.8 5-spd with 58,000km. I will ask my mechanic about the suggested causes above. Thanks!
