Punto (Mk2/2b) Rudolph - You know you love it

Introduction

So I have changed my cars again and this time it's a 2002 red sporting.
Since it's christmas soon and the car is red, I will name it Rudolph.
Don't have any pics yet but they will be along soon.

Well I've made a draft list of stuff that I want done.

Thermostat + gasket - done
Breather pipe - done
Air filter - done
Oil + oil filter 10w 40 part synth £?
Aero wipers - done
Wipex wiper linkage + grease motor
Rear shock absorbers/check fronts.
Replace gearbox oil.
Brake discs, pads, shoes drums, brake fluid, bleed brakes
Check brake lines.
Timing belt, tensioner, coolant + water pump. £?
Tracking. £?
Toyo tyres. £200
Extra horn. - already have them
Angel eye headlights. £100
Exhaust centre and backbox. £47
Manifold £138
Bonnet bra or smooth bonnet.
Aftermarket headunit + speakers + sort out sub.
Clutch.
Mk2b rear lights.
Fix boot light.
Grease bonnet and bootlid hinges.
Boot struts.
Fix rear seatbelt plastic cover rattle (really annoys me but I forget soon as I stop driving)

Anyway, now I'm thinking if it's even worth doing all of this. Might just get rid and get something bigger :/

Update/End

Took the car to garage for diagnostics and it came back with a £700+ minimum quote to fix from a few garages, so this will be the end of this car soon. Need to save up for another car now until this runs still.
Expect to see this up for sale as spares or repairs. :(

But I have to look ahead and think what car I could get next :yum:
Chances are it won't be a Fiat though.

i did some diagnostics on a punto last week
failed output driver ecu
failed power steering

i got the costings to between £400 and £700

ive bought another punto not worth testing ,swapped the bits over done a full mes to clear any pending codes
done a torque steer centralisation
and spent £100

so sometimes you just need to think outside the box mate:)

Oil leak from rear crank seal
Coolant leak from head gasket (this one I have no clue about, there oil cap seems perfect clear and not visibly losing any coolant, can't see anything under the car either where I park)
Major blow from back box
Exhaust flexi is very deteriorated
Top end rattle at 2500rpm
O/S/F lower arm rear bush debonded
Airbag light on. (This is the only one I can probably sort out as it's a common issue. Apart from exhaust which is a waste of money if engine is dying)

Why?
What happens if it does?

the dish runs away with the spoon :D

on a different note it would need to be bad to contaminate the clutch, what normally happens is it drips out of the bellhousing down the sump and dribles on your drive, makes a right mess, good thing normally though due to concentric turnings of the crank when you are driving the car they (usually ) dont leak

dont go to fiat for the oil seal they will want more than dick turpins yearlly robbery haul go to a decent factor like andrew pages they have them on the shelf for a £10 oe spec

Yeah I got a second and third opinion. All said doing gearbox and engine will cost a lot in labour. And they're all independent trustworthy garages.

I don't have the means to replace the engine and even so I would have to do clutch/gearbox when swapping engines. Doing that would cost me pretty much the same as paying to fix it.

if your not into getting your hands oily
then cutting your losses and taking gamble on another car might be the way
but still you couid end up with another lemon,

punto needing work is worth peanuts so you may find you might end up throwing money away,

this is why i the like 8 valve
much simpler to do work on if slower
cheaper to run
and higher residual returns
when chop in turn cometh t
not a 16 valve fan in these fiats chocolate i call em
