Do you honestly think that the management of RM are aiming to produce a negative impact on service for the hell of it though?

Yes, they are, there are no shareholders, no owners to answer to, the RM has never lost money but Leighton and Crozier just took out £1.37m each this year, why ???

They have made no impact on the business, it's always made money and always will.

Even when they claimed we were losing £1m a day, it was propoganda, RM went on a campaign of modernisation, they installed Sunrise, a payment system into every PO nationally, it cost hudreds of millions, the Government then announced all benefits/pensions/giros would now be paid direct into banks, Sunrise was defunct, never used and RM announced profits that year.

The folowing year we still made huge losses, they went on an international spending spree and spent hundreds of millions on overseas postal businesses that were crap, they sold all six of them off a year later, announcing losses of hundreds of millions.

Leighton came on board, all this expansion modernisation stopped for a couple of years and ooh, back in profit, so now we are on the expansion/ modernisation route again.....................................

Go figure..........................

Because with all due respect, you're a postman in a company which has 15,000 branches in this country and employs around what, 150,000? You have a very small voice, like anybody does in a company beyond 100 people.

TC for example is claiming that using automation for mail sorting is a bad thing (from investment from the government) - that is simply not the case. It means people lose their jobs but it also means a streamlined, cost cut business. RM has to give people extra money to start early or pay people to be full time when they don't need to be? Start people later to save money and use part time employees. Sucks to the employees but the business will survive.

After all, the RM is a PLC.

ive yet to see how these fabled machines will do with tenement stairs with manly incomplete addressed mail.you need the human element for that ;)
im talking local and national level paul.no ones listening at either

TC, the RM doesn't make a profit as an entity! Even last year it was only a pseudo-profit.

I've never said that.

I am for modernisation, but it has to be done moderately, consultatively and over a period of time, not what they are proposing, 27 major changes in the next six months!

Paul

Stop it now. You are making uneducated and uninformed comments. You are being pedantic. We work in the industry and know the in and outs and of course the FACTS.

I'm sure you just argue for the sake of it. I wouldn't challenge you on your chosen industry, it would be stupid wouldn't it ??

Now pack it in you are aggravating my IBS..............................

Are you using the right methods? When I wanted a bonus at work (contractors don't get bonuses but I considered myself a special case for various reasons) - I use a "contact the management" system on the intranet and then followed it up with my direct manager. If RM don't have such systems, you should suggest such things. BUT at the end of the day, RM is simply too large to either micro or macro manage so what do you? You end up ignoring people and hence "diseconomies of scale".

If the automatic sorters can do the correctly addresses business mail + 50% of other mail, it will save millions!

Paul, profits were so high that they took a thirteen year pension contribution break, which has now plunged them £4.2billion into the red.

Government took between £600-800million out of the PO betwee 1997 and 2001, I know these figures, I have worked at many Postal Grades and through several Management Grades too.

You can't know it all you know ???

Do you really think that they took a pension contribution break because they were so well off?! You also think somehow that a £4 billion pension gap shows a healthy company in profit? No, it shows accountancy is keeping the company (which is what it is) afloat.

A company stops making contributions into a pension scheme when it is in financial trouble, not when it is making profits.

Think you will also find that even with nice accountancy, the Post Offices lose money year on year...

Gotta go Paul, but if you research you will find that our pension fund was really lucrative and performing terrificly during the 70/80s, it had a massive surplus, hence the contibution break, RM as usual, just took it a little to far.......................

Off to work now.

Bon soir!
