my sister wants to know how long the fines take to come through for not getting road tax, she's seen all these adverts about it but she hasnt got a fine yet? so how long does it take to come through? any ideas?

AFAIK it's between 4 and 6 weeks, which is about right for the DVLA.
Mine took 3 months to come through after I scrapped a car and forgot to tell them.
Luckily I sweet talked them and they tore up my cheque
Why is she waiting for one? Surely it would be cheaper to buy the road tax? Also without tax you're uninsured!

Yeah, that 3 months would have been for them to actually work out it'd been scrapped.
Not buying tax is a silly thing to do... I'm up to date now, so it's all good

im pretty sure they give you something like 2 weeks after it running out to get it. after that, i believe you get the fine even if you tax or not.. or atleast its supposed work like that.

Now it get really annoying. You can buy tax at the post office, but only starting this month, not last month. To fill-in the last month's tax you've missed, you have to go to the DVLA office, and pay there. If you do this before you get fined, you may get away with it.uno_94 said:

mmmm il tell her, its just that she cant get it until she finds her MOT that she has lost and when her insurance send her certificate through- cheap company so really bad service.
if she gets it tomorrow it will cover her for all this month so no fine
mot probaly in that car some where. under all that paper
Can she not do it online? It checks MOT and insurance auomatically so no need for paper certificates
