I am insured with Kwik Fit, and was on my Golf GTI Cabriolet (1986 model) and the payment were £126 a month (yes I know, it was my first car so super expensive!!! :bang:)

Anyway I wanted to get a cheaper car, and went for a 1.2 Punto expecting it to be much cheaper, well how wrong was I? :bang:

It turns out that my insurance has increased by £200 by changing to a lower engine car? Hmmmm even the sales guy was miffed by it! I am fully comp woth £0 voluntery excess.

I only have 5 months left on my policy, then I will be cancelling and going with someone else (plus I will be 25 then with 1 years no claims)

Arrrghhhh just needed a rant, as it realt pee'd me off, how can they do this!!!

Sadly its not just the power of a car that dictates your Insurance costs, statistics are involved, and statistically young people are involved in more accidents driving certain cars. Think yourself fortunate to be female... lads have a far harder time.

My 18 yr old nephew has to pay £2,500 3rd party with his Mother as a named driver, the highest quote was £9,000!

The car? A 7 year old 1.2 Stilo Active Aircon...

Thats crazy!!!! :bang:

Shop around, use the comparison websites and play the insurance companies against each other, I'm sure you can end up getting it cheaper than what you had before.

The thing is Kwik Fit are one of the cheapest for me on the comparison websites BUT when I amended my policy it went upto £1600, but on say Go Compare it was coming up at under £900 and thet wouldn't match it, even though the same company.

They advised me to cancel my policy and start a new one if I wanted that price :bang::bang: !!!!! I would be loosing my 6 months no claims, so I have to stay with them Grrrr

I hear direct line are cheap, but don't allow mods. If your not planning on modifying you should give them a call.

Makes me glad I don't live where he does

Didn't you bother to phone up your current insurance company before buying your new car?

Puntos are popular with 'boy racers'...so will be expensive to insure...although I paid less than £1,000 when I was 18 and male (still am male...) on a Punto...so yours does seem alot more expensive lol.

It may sound silly (actually it doesn't sound silly it's the most sensible thing you could do) but up your voluntary excess, even £100 should bring it down nicely :)

True, I went to £500 voluntary plus £150 compulsory - so if i have a scrape i have to pay the first £650:eek:
Then again, I've got over 9 years without a claim (that's how far back their records went) so I'm not expecting to make a claim anytime soon.
(I'm kinda putting my money where my mouth is!)

my daughter had the same problem with her 1st car (punto active 1.2 8v) we insured it with churchill and got the costs reduced by putting myself and my wife on as named drivers and of course naming my daughter as the main driver.

well i know of a certain person who crashed there punto and added to the statistics

and "boy" racer is just a crap stereo type

Boy racer is not a crap stereo type, it is clearly what they are, crap drivers that want to fit in to the crowd with some mates... and act like complete *bleeps* on the road. My brother was one of theses here "boy racer" stereo types, he's 20 and has already wrote off 3 cars and has also put a metal plate into his current girlfriends head because of an accident... I get irritated with the amount of money I have to fork out because of theses statistics... But its either I pay out... Or I just don't have the one thing I enjoy in life... at the age of 17 and a newly passed driver, its worth paying for.
