My V Reg 1.2 SX Bravo (45,000 miles) is reving between 2000 nd 3000 revs when clutch in or in neutral - garage have had on diagnostic machine and can't find anything wrong - has been sat on their forecourt for a week until they can find time to investigate further - any pointers!

Faulty idle control valve maybe?

Do a search and you'll find loads of posts about erratic idling!!!

excuse my ignorance but if something was wrong with that part would it not show on the diagnostic check!

Dumb blonde I'm afraid!

maybe it just needs a good clean!

use carburetor cleaner to clean it out and leave it to dry before re-fitting it!

Re : Reving Engine

Thanks will ask them to look at that then

If it is hunting between 2000-3000rpm could also be an air leak. Check all hoses around the inlet manifold.

Erratic Idle 850 to 2500 rpm

Most definatly it is the Idle control valve ( Electro Valve) I have just replaced it on my sons 1250 cc 80 SX W reg Bravo and this has solved the problem total cost inc vat 1
£ 150.25 April 07 Fiat Dealer Kind Regards Cozymerc yes I drive a Cosworth Merc.

Easy Check you can do.

The Idle Control Valve is located on the rear of the throttle carb 3 star screws locate it I sugest you remove the 3 star screws and pull of the black valve box you should then see a steel pointer now start the engine with the unit still electricaly connected but hanging free if the erratic idling stops it most definatly is the idle control valve you can run the car with out this connected to save money I had to take back a new faulty idle control valve to Fiat and had a song and dance to get them to replace it as they state on there invioce special orders are non returnable as I am connected to trading standards once I quoted the law to them they relunctantly got the part replaced the faulty one kept the car reving at 4000 revs I got a spare off e-bay for £30

Expert help and free!

When you have run a Le Mans team for 24 hours then you can have your say but I have forgot more than you will ever know. One other tip, you can disconnect the air intake plastic hose from the throttle control then look at the buterfly valve inside if you can see this moving then the idle control valve is faulty. enjoy your FIATS (Fix It Again Tomorrow) that's what it stands for. Team Mercedes Head Technical Machanic, see you at Le Mans 16th June 2007 start at 4pm.

And ?

Are we supposed to bow down before thee ?

Thanks for the worthwhile advice. As for the posturing, leave it at the door.
