Reverse Gear Problem

Hiya,

Hoping for a bit of advice on a little problem please.

I'm having problems with reverse gear on my Brava 1.9 JTD 105. Sometimes it goes into gear straight away and pretty smooth and sometimes it wont go into gear for a while. The worst case so far is when I pulled into a turning to turn round and had to reverse back to make it, I was there for about 5 minutes looking like a total idiot :(.

There is no crunching etc, I pull the stick to the right and it just wont pull down into reverse, when it does decide to work it does it smoothly as though there is nothing wrong.

All other gears are fine.

I had the slave cyclinder replaced about 2 months ago and all seemed fine. This problem started to be noticeable about a month ago.

Any ideas oh clever and technical minded ones?

Cheers

try raising the clutch slowly whilst still pulling it into gear , or push clutch twice. mine has same problem and using these methods it goes in first time.

Hello Gaz

Thanks for the advice, but nope doesn't work.

Just went out and it went into reverse on first attempt then no reverse so tried a couple of times but nothing. Then tried doubling the clutch and letting it off slowly but still no.

Tried just putting it into gear several times, still nothing then it went 6 times on the trot straight in and finished off with a good old 1 minute of refusing.

sounds to me like a selector or linkage is out of alignment ever so slightly. could have had a bump, or a loose bolt perhaps is allowing some play?

When it wont go in, try selecting first then back to neutral. Now release the clutch, depress the clutch again and into reverse. Also, rocking the car a bit (just rock back and forwards in the seat) helps sometimes.

There are so many possible answers to that one which I shall refrain from ;)

Tried what you advised Ozric but alas no different :( .

But after switching the engine off and was playing about with different combinations I went to start the car forgetting it was still in gear, duh. So the car rocked foward quite hard and now it does seems a bit easier or rather not so long to get in gear. So perhaps it's something loose as Buzz suggested.

I'll see how it is when I go to work this afternoon and hopefully I wont be blocking the car park for 5 minutes like yesterday :s .

Thanks again lads for the advice etc.

Roy
