i can't find one of these anywhere!, i cant get into 5th or reverse on the seicento and the gearleaver feels really loose without it springing back into the middle of neutral!, so i'm 99.9% sure its that cable, is it easy to replace it and where do i get one?

cheers!!

Its unlikely to be that. The inhibitor cable only stops the selector going into reverse. Undo the 8mm bolt(13mm head) beside the cable and pull it out. You will need to take the reverse light switch out to get it back in.

Without the cable the box should now go into reverse without needing to push the knob.

The selector 'springiness' is in the selector box under the gear stick itself, the actual selectors on top of the box are not springy at all.

On the Sei Sporting it's like this

(best pic I could find): no physical connection between inhibitor cable and gearbox whatsoever.

Bloody Seis, doncha just hate them?

Its even worse picture when you read the legend and its going on about 1a and 1b, when the picture has 2a and 2B!!

Does that cable not then trigger the same cable to the box as a Cinq? Or is it inside the selector box itself that the detent is?

I recon not. Somewhere in the Porter one it has the full pic and there are only the two main cables.

When I did the Sporting box into S transplant I just used the two Sporting cables and the S lever and remote: no reverse inhibitor at all!

I've yet to try going from 5th to reverse -- methinks you'd have to be very strong or very unlucky to do it!

Right, sorry, I thought you had done an 899 to 1108 conversion. I did one years ago and am hopefully consulting on another one soon and thought you had a short cut or two.

I ran my 5 speed box without the cable attached, but I've put it in again with the 6 spd.
