Technical Replacing fuel tank in Panda 4x4 141A 2003

My tank is utterly corroded and leaking if tank is more than half full and I need to replace it. I found the correct model online in several stores and it goes for around €450 which is quite steep.

So I'm thinking to order the new tank but do the mechanical replacing myself instead of giving it to a mechanic. Has anyone here done this before? I'm no car mechanic by any means but I do have some DIY skills and I'm not afraid of getting my hands dirty... still I'm not sure if this can be done without proper qualification and/or experience?

At that price I'd be looking at getting your current tank patched up unless is beyond saving with most of the metal beyond repair

Im intrigued by a tank being steel..?

Im 95% sure the @2000 on I broke for parts was plastic..as I drilled a hole to drain it

Edit.. it wasnt a 4x4
It was an Italian registered 1108cc

Mechanically same as the 2004 169 I then had for 15 years

I've never seen a tank like that before, I thought all 4x4s had the tank with the oval fuel pump opening.
I replaced the tank on mine (1988 4x4 ie) last year and have had the tank off several times before that. It's really not difficult to do, it's just held on with three bolts. Just make sure you label the hoses properly so you reconnect them in the right place.

The Swiss have made some demands for 'spec' over the years..
(Honda motorcycles had a rubber 'finger' on the prop stand for Ch. Import..)


Ok the Op. Has a 2003 probably the last months of manufacture..
Their quest for a used tank will probably highlight the changes..and dates

Yes it's a 2003 last series 141A 1108 Fire engine 40KW / 54PS 4x4 Panda. I don't believe it's any "Swiss" edition though but I don't know.

Are all of the tanks you have seen steel?

I am wondering if plastic.. like the 2wd is completely different.. due to the REAR AXLE being in the way..

Yeah I've only seen replacement tanks made out of (sometimes inside tinned) steel. I'd love a plastic solution though!

It is possible to fit a pump from a later plastic tank?
Maybe a cheeper solution
