Technical Replacing all of the punto 5 speed gearbox bearings

Hi, I was thinking this would make an interesting project for the winter. My box has 225,000km and I already know the other input bearing is a bit noisy.

Is there a particular procedure needed when tightening the two very large nuts holding the input shaft and the parallel shaft that you can see when you remove the end cover that hides 5th gear?

A good box here in Finland is not cheap at all. Bottom of the heap is 250 euro all the way up to around a 1000 or more.

yea i just packed 10 gearboxes in a borrowed van and im heading over there

Kajaani is a long way from Helsinki and I suppose you will be wanting Finnish prices,

Easy box to repair. You don't even need box out.
Remove selector from top of box then move selector forks to select two gears, loosen or tighten large nuts as required.

Thanks, I am not sure what you mean by moving the forks to select two gears?

You also say you do not need to take the box out, I am supposing you mean you can leave the bell housing on the engine and replace the 6 bearings with the rest of the box out of the car?
