The battery that I want to replace is a small square one 175mm X 75mm.
Many of the replacements suggested online are 212mm X 175mm. This should fit the battery tray but are there any other fitting problems that I have not thought about ?

Thanks for the reply. That is the same or similar to the one which is failing. I am hoping to fit a better (longer) one that the suppliers say will fit. I am just wondering if there are any unexpected problems with the large terminal fitment at the fuse box end.

PS I seem to have lost a 1 in the original post. Size should be 175m X 175mm

I would nip down to Eurocarparts and ask to try the bigger one in situ - they're pretty flexible at ours.

They do list the longer battery for our (2011 Dynamic) so presumably it'll fit.

Thank you both for the replies.
This is the one that I like the look of, I'm just a little concerned that the large fitment on the negative terminal will foul the fuse box. Has anybody actually done this ?

we've fitted 1.2 PUNTO spec batteries to our pandas,
you remove the felt box / case from the battery tray..connections and plate clamp all work as before,
I got a Bosch S4 from the web for a similar price,

Thanks, that's useful info

Bosch S3 and S4 both fit. I recently 'upgraded' from the S3 to the S4 with no issues.

Just to round up. Thanks for all the help. I finally fitted ABS 12 from Advanced Batteries. This one was 210x175X190, which went in with no trouble (mms to spare). I decided to stick with 190mm high as there seemed no adjustment on the hold-down strap to allow for a lower battery. Only had to reset the clock at the end.

Good to know that the larger type of battery can be fitted. I fitted a 175x175x190 to mine worrying about the measurements. I wanted the 212x175x190 Bosch S4 (same as the one I have but with a bigger CCA) with 410 (ish) CCA compared with my 360CCA and 42ah.

I also only needed to reset the time/date once fitted. Many people said I might have needed to reset the radio code but this wasn't needed. We've had no trouble since, however strangely enough my tracking appeared to go once the tiny battery was fitted, so I was wondering if the smaller battery caused the tracking to slightly go off because with the previous battery, tracking was spot on. The battery sizes varied massively, with the Exide original being huge in comparison with this tiny (square shaped) Bosch S4.

Matt.

I've just fitted a Powerline 012 battery from Tayna, £35 delivered and it's made a hell of a difference, no juggling the throttle to start, no more resetting the clock, the old battery ( a little 40Ah one ) would turn it over ok but the voltage must have been dropping so low it was resetting everything. The new battery is 210 x 190 X 175mm and fitted straight into the original carrier on my 06 1.1 Active.

Sorry to butt in, but my Panda is 10 and on its original battery (to the best of my belief). Sometimes it starts amazingly - I turn the key two chugs and it's on. Other times it takes a good few more chuggs, almost sounds weaker - never has it not started even in the freezing mornings - but is this a sign I need to change my battery? Or would even a new one have those moments?

Thanks!

I'd go for a Bosch replacement as their quality is always OEM or beyond to be honest ! :)

Yep, SB1500' your battery will be in it's twilight years, ready for the great battery retirement home, if it's got a little round inspection window is that a green colour or black? If it's green then the battery is probably ok but if not, for the cost of £35/40 it's not worth messing about. Go for the bigger 210x175x190mm size if that's not what's already there. I changed mine over the weekend and it made a vast improvement.

Batteries tend to work till they die and that can be almost all of a sudden. If it's the original, I'd be expecting to replace it.

Just to second what Martroy said here - I also went to Tayna's website and bought the Powerline 012 (210x190x175mm). It slotted in easily as a replacement for the square factory fitted old Exide battery. I have a Mk2 2011 1.2 Dynamic Panda and can confirm, as matty23 said, the factory fitted Blaupunkt radio/cd didn't ask for a code after the battery was disconnected. The only thing to reset was the dash clock, which was no longer saving the time anyway (it now works correctly once again thanks to the new battery).

Failing batteries will lose one cell. The remaining 6 can still be enough but voltage will go too low when starting hence the clock stopping and having to juggle the throttle.

The test is simple - connect the battery with jump leads to a good battery. If all is well you have a shot battery. No load voltage checks are often misleading as a weak cell will look ok when it not doing any real work. Tests have to be done under load such as the starter.
