Replace my waterpump

Hi,
I need to change my waterpump . Will i need to slacken off the alternator ( if so can you tell me how to go about this ) .
I have got a second hand replacement will i need a new gasget.

First, what car do you have?

Second, water pumps are cheap. It's barking mad to use a second hand one.

It is a 98 cinq ( 900 cc )
