I need to replace the accelerator cable on my 1970 Fiat 850. How is this done?

Note: This is not a sarcastic comment.

Do you have access to a service manual? If not, locating one of those would be the first thing to do.

Hi Tiller

The basics of it are most of the work is done under the dashboard in the tunnel. you will have to remove a surprising amount of things so be prepared with a good amount of time.

The accelerator cable on my 850 sport coupe just broke. Is it straightforward to just replace the inner? Any special challenges I should know about before I start?

Thanks.

Read the info above. You will need to remove some of the parts inside the car. The pedal end has a ring on it so it slides in from the pedal end into a tube in the tunnel. Pull back the carpet under the heater and remove the metal cover plate at the front of the tunnel, depending where your existing one has broken you may be able to tape the new one to part of the old one and pull it through(you will need to remove the ring first.

It basically goes through a tube mounted in the floor/ tunnel. You can just replace the inner section only though and dont need to replace the rear outer sleeve.

Carpet? Ha ha. What carpet? Getting into the tunnel is always a piece of cake for me.
