hi, i have bought one of the 1.6 chips from the danish blokes but im having a bit of trouble getting the ecu out. ive removed all of the nuts but not sure what to do next?

cheers

John

unplug the manins on the battery.

the ecu is boltet with 4 nuts, unscrew them, unplug the ecu connector, then the ecu should come out.

i'm having trouble getting the connector out. there is a clip on the top that wont budge. is there another at the bottom?

John

no worries, finished it now. going to take it for a spin to see the results :)

how did you get access to the bottom bolts? i've just gone out to try and install mine, but i can't reach them at all!

Take the ECU out on its carrier, far easier. Just 3/4 nuts hold it to the battery tray and off it comes.

cheers tom, but i think thats what i'm trying to do.
I can see the two at the top, but not the other 2, i assume they are in the opposite 2 corners but can't see, or reach round to them.

Is this a jack up the car jobbie?

thanks!

I find it quite alarming that you are contemplating access into the most fragile part of your car and you cant even work out how to get the thing off its bracket!
Still, al the more merrier for the likes of us when you need a new ECU :)

what a useful forum this is....

i fail to see how not being unable to reach a bolt implies anything other than i'm just not sure where to put the spanner??

anyone...?

its an under the car job! i did it without jacking the car up but then im a skinny git!

i dont get you people, if you obviously are the master at it, why not enlighten.

As far as I could gather, there are two bolts which are in the bottom side of the ecu case and my question was simply do i need to access them from under the car, or can they be reached from the top.

Thanks ash for the answer.... why do you people just take the mick and not help out?

Nope, you missed the point by a very long way.
The posts were about you emrarking to attempt brain surgery when you cant work out how to get the patients clothes off.
I neither know nor care how to get the 1.6 ECU out, I spend my life removing ECU off cars, and yes sometimes you have to dismantle half the car to get to them - you just have to work it out as you go along.

Thanks to Ash? For saying you need to get under the car?! Whatever!

Look a few posts earlier as the correct answer HAS been given.

LOL brain surgery, replacing a chip on a ECU is F**c all like brain surgery.

Here U go: U just have to take out the battery, and unscrew the bolts (2). The bolt also hold the wires for injection & starter.

Just to add, Im sticking with Tom & Nige; the last ECU that I took out on my old car went dead, so I learned
**** If U even look at a ECU bad, it will **** up*****,
but that is just IMO
