Technical removing gearbox cables..

Trying to get the gearbox out following my troubles and I'm having problems removing the gear change cables...I just don't want to pull too hard! Is there an easier way?

Um, i dont know if there is a special ball joint removal tool out there? But they are bloody tight, really need to tug on them.
