Am about to remove EGR from the equation on my 2003 115JTD and just wondered whether fellow muliplarians had experience of removal in the long term.
I ask this as I note that the Marea forum seems to suggest that this is a diagnostic strategy rather than for long term running.
I could go down the cleaning route but prefer a long term solution.
Anybody out there got experience of long term running with EGR blanked off?
Regards,
Brian
ps ifr it is expedient to cease use of EGR what's the simplest method?

it should be fine mate.

i blanked it off on my 128k 02 jtd 110, and it ran cleaner, pulled better too. got rid of it at 145k and it still pulled fine.

basically the egr feeds the engine its own waste to lower the combustion temperature, which in turn reduces the emission of Nox gasses.

a conversation i had with a guy from technical years ago was that if youre gonna dot the i's and cross the t's youre changing the type approval of the vehicle. but he also said it would run cleaner and pull better. he couldnt guarantee that there wouldnt be any engine damage over prolonged use but that was beacuse of his position, eg fiat tech advisor. it was his personal opinion that cars run better without egr.

my own personal opinion is that if the running temperature is slightly higher then the carbon will get burnt off the valves and pistons more. which in turn will make it run cleaner.

dont think youll need to worry about the ecu as it runs off mapped values for the egr, ie theres no feedback to the ecu on egr position on that model year. might be proven wrong but ive never had any problems.

Hi all,
I have been following this and the related EGR thread. If you remove the EGR or blank it, does the EML not come on and if so will it not fail your MOT?? I certainly think my car with failed EGR (stuck closed and running a dream!) will not pass the Irish NCt with the EML on even though the only emissions test, like with you, is for particulates. Unfortunately I am looking at having to replace my EGR to get rid of the EML. Any ideas on where I could get an inexpensive (new?) EGR for a 2006 120 Eleganza multijet??

no the engine management lamp doesnt come on.

engine management lamp on isnt an MoT fail.
