Tuning Remap TRUE figures.

Tuning Remap TRUE figures.

Both roads are probably out in some way but as Dave says the percentage increase is what counts.

145 (Std on RD Rollers) to 186.6 (Remap on RD Rollers) = 28.6% Increase! = WIN!

i think so, but dont take much notice :p

i think red dot are brilliant, and like you dom was happy with my remap they done me on my old punto jtd, but again like you, my figure was way over the mark of what it really was.

Your Punto Diesel was 10% below the factory power when on the Red Dot rollers.

All the Alfa 2.0 JTS on the Red Dot rollers are between 135 and 140 bhp, which is well under the claimed 155bhp.

The Peugeot 206 180s showed o n the Red Dot rollers around the 165 as it did on all the Dyno Dynamics, Mahas, TATs etc.

Lewey had his Mk1 Panda rolling roaded and the bhp figures matched the accelration times and terminal speed times on the 1/4 mile track.

I would be a bit careful with your statements.

@ Dom 130 - The Dyno Dynamics is calculating the flywheel power as much as any other rolling road.

I have seen a Rnault Clio on a Dydn Dynamics (and some other have seen this run too) where in 5 power runs the the readings were between 120 and 250bhp.

There was also an article in one of the perfromance mags how easy it is to get things wrong with the Dyno Dynamics.

Recently we had the situation that a car done at Red Dot's rollers showed there 187bhp then a couple of weeks later 168bhp at a Dyno Dynamics, then a few weeks later 183 at Red Dot and some weeks later 184 at Ecosse's Maha.

Dom,
I could probably see your frustration if the bhp was stated on the back of your car for all to see, but,as most people here have pointed out its not the figures you should be concerned with but the way the car performs after the remap, and as you say you are very happy with the results wheres the problem?

I dont remember anyone guaranteeing anything from when I had my Red Dot re-map. What I do know is that for £200 it was a great day out, I got an increase in performance that still makes me smile and I am happy!

I suppose I would be a bit more anal if I were using my car for track racing and got humbled... but I dont so what's the problem about a few Bhp here or there...?

Its just calculations anyhow... main thing is that the car is fuelling properly & in my own case still going strong 28,000 miles later (y)

I was always wary of Red Dots rolling road, after all they make money from improved figures ect

2 weeks before I got mine mapped mine made 138bhp on red dots it made 144bhp

but as Ffoxy said, bhp is only pub talk, for the money I was and still am made up with the gains, I will probably be getting mine RR`d again with corsasport.co.uk on an independant rolling road to see how everything is

the fact that the fueling was spot on and the operater had no concerns is testament to Red Dots mapping skills

to take the calculations out of it, can we have bhp at the wheels? mine was 147 bhp at the wheels on awsome GTI's rollers......

This is the thing- rolling roads measure power at the wheels, any flywheel figure given is an estimate. Different rolling roads have different ways of calculating the losses through the transmission, some base theirs on figures from cars that have been on both an engine dyno and a rolling road, and some use a simple percentage figure. Either way, they can never be 100% accurate- so you can only really compare At The Wheels figures as that is what is read.

TBH, any dyno has ways of 'fudging' the figures (not just DD- drum-based dyno's can inflate the losses if the operator applies the brakes gently on the coast-down after the run, for example). ;)

If you want to see if any mods have made improvements- use the same dyno throughout.

If you want to compare figures with other cars at other dyno's- use the ATW figure.

No guys you are taking this wrong. As I said in the opening statement, the remap is set up perfectly on my car and i am VERY happy with the performance. Alot of people have just shown that red dots rollers show higher figures. And im presuming the rollers in halifax are more so correct due to the cars I was there with, getting consistant figures varying only between extra mods on the same model of car. After attending lots of RR days across the country you can see which places rollers are over/under reading / accurate. And this seems much more realistic from a rolling road which gave very realistic figures between different and similar cars. A forum is for discussion and that was my aim... Not to insult anyones profession. Red dot have done wonders with my car, and I can only imagine what my car would be like if it did have closer to 190bhp with it preforming as well as it does now. Overall peak figures are pub banter yeah, but when im paying money, whether its 50quid or 500quid, Im not expecting to go from one higher figure to a much lower figure (which in my eyes and every other owners there that day was much more than whats possible for small variables, especially when every other car made moddest fair outputs for the modifications made, compared to other rollers in comparison) I would put money on the fact that red dots rollers over read. How ever very happy with my car and how well red dot configured it (y)

Had mine R/R on Dastek rollers which I believe are the best in the business? It peaked at 178.3bhp, this is with a generic Angel tuning remap. It was a bitterly cold winter's day and I was running on V Power diesel which probably helped a bit mind. :)

@ Sharky, how many miles is on yours now bud? Still rinnung with the Angel map?

no they are twin drum too, the best are single drum like this

The best rollers are the TATs. There is only 5 in the country and it is one of the few that can very accurately measure the transmission losses.

The one in Rainham, which I use for reference purposes is used by many professionals as well as by many racers.

Other than that the accuracy of a rolling road depends largely on the operator.

yup still the angel map, very happy with it, mapped at 4k now 89k no engine/turbo/clutch/gerbox issues at all, still drives like new (y) and even though my awsome RR day gave only 158bhp at the fly, another "caculation" from the 147bhp at the wheels gave 173bhp at the fly lol. loosing only 10bhp through the drivetrain seemed very unusual.... it definatley 314lbs/ft of torque though, that is measured at the wheels, no calcs to mess that up. does very well on the road, I was second car at a meet recently, first car leading was a 4x4 octavia 1.8t mapped to 200 bhp, and I kept up with him no probs, exiting corners onto long straights, we were matched for acceleration, he did have more traction out of the tight ones though due to 4wd :D

Yeah the Dastek did have twin rollers, nice bit of kit though.

How can they mess it up?

Sounds good ma man! Must say mind still drives like a treat, only added 18k miles since the map... How much longer you keeping yours?
