Im getting poor fuel economy from my mk2 punto, or I think I am anyway.

From 3/4 of a tank down to 1 notch above empty and the fuel light coming on Id done roughly 270 miles, this is out of a 1.2 8v punto.

I dont drive like an idiot, infact recently Ive been driving very carefully and in high gear etc trying to save petrol, the punto is running on 17" alloys, with a sub/amp etc in it so that wont help economy much, but still I think thats a bit poor for a 1.2.

So Ive been looking at this redex fuel system cleaner stuff, does it work? My puntos done 64000 miles, should it need a cleanout or something? whats the best course of action here?

I have used about redex in the cinq for a while and found the engine and MPG to improve during the time I was using it, I think it depends on each engine though and how bad of condition it is in.for the price it costs you will not be losing much.

I agree with you guys its worth a shot, just worried incase it had a history of fecking up engines, do you have to use it with a full tank or can you just put some in?

I've heard good stuff about redex, my only reservation is that on older cars it works too well and can clean pits in the cylinder lining which can occur over time. However I wouldn't worry about this, this kind of damage is rare and usually only occurs on older engines (12+ years depending on driving style and fuel, setup etc...)

These systems also work well for a limited time.

I have used it and find it is the worst of the products avaiable, by this I mean, use something else. I have tried several and find there all better than Redex, I think Redex has the name not the quality. Also do not dilute it as much as it says, use 1/5 a tank full if it says full tank. And yes do not use it on older cars. say 10yrs +, but keeping your car serviced and filters / plugs changed then there is little need to use such a thing. look at your driving style. My car does 27mpg if I drive my normal style, a lot better if I chill out more....
