Technical RECALL: Service Solution for Suspension Springs

I've been trying for the last week to get my stilo booked in for the recall, I phone every day to be told they are all busy and the service dept will phone me back!, its been 6 working days now, are all fiat dealers this bad?
Been contacting Fiat in Hitchin, Herts (n) , as it the nearest to me. Anyone else had this problem?
Is it just this garage or because they dont want to do the work to it?
I wanted to get it sone before I drive up to scotland the end of next week but doesent look like it will happen now!
As long as it doesnt break when im on my way up there, at least I have the RAC, just lets hope I dont need to use them!:bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

i would have thought most dealers would be booked up 5-7 working days in advance, why don't you just book it in for a couple of weeks time??

You need to emphasize to them this is a safety issue (and take notes too).

If you're driving a 2002 model then I wouldn't drive to Scotland without the mod :(

HI FOLKS...i have a 54 reg stilo 5 door (basic air con model) will this be an issue in relation to springs causing damage? as i know a man who has an 02 reg stilo and his snaped and it shreaded all the tyre to bits and had to be fixed at some great cost to him then a week later he got a letter asking him to take the car into the dealer for a modification..he is now asking fiat uk for the full cost of the damage done..head office of fait uk have yet to respond but i think many owners are gettting together as that way they stand a better chance of getting there money back on somthing not there fault and it makes me wonder if anyone had been hurt over this issue....?

Thats the problem, they wont phone me back and the receptionist says they all must be busy as there not answering the service phone, will just have to go further afield to another dealer.

my recall letter came today, recorded delivery.

Rung up this morning and got it booked in for Tuesday.

2005 (54 plate) JTD MW.

it'll be my first experience of Arnold's service or a recall so should prove interesting.

One member did threaten his dealer with court proceedings and in the very end just as they were going to court the dealer bought the car back of him so it can happen many of us though have not been so lucky and didn't even get compensation from purchasing the springs themselves as you will see if you read the whole thread from the beginning :) It can be very much a lottery as no doubt you will find :bang:

I must admit, this doesn't look like the sort of cup that was fitted to mine when the recall was done. Maybe it was fitted back to front??

Must have missed that one. Shall I post some pics of what a correct fit looks like?

Yes, that was me getting dropped off.... Black Stilo!!!

I'm now going to have another barny with Fiat as I was told the car would be ready today, only to find out that the new springs are on back order and will possibly arrive on Saturday.

To top it all off, they cannot even give me a courtesy car.... I have to travel to Stansted from Colchester every day!!!

Just about to e-mail customer services and threaten them with a bit of court action unless they come up with a car or pay for rental. May even throw in a bit about going to the papers.... imagine the headlines. " Fiat service recall puts thousands of lives in danger, Colchester family narrowly miss a major accident!!'

I'll let you know how I get on!!

I think it's the right spring catcher mod (here's one)
Stilo%20-%20Cup%20Break 2.JPG
but your picture looks like the broken spring has taken one or two of the side spring catcher legs out with it along with a chunk of the base which is why it doesn't look like it should. Got any more pictures?

The Pepsi can spring catcher mod doesn't look tough enough to stop an exploding spring and that kind of proves it. Glad i went for replacing springs instead then

No intention to rub it in, sorry if that's the way it sounded. Just think that the only surefire solution is a replacement of the spring with something different

New springs are very similar to the originals, same ride height, but less nose diving in corners
