Reasonable satnav

My mom has told me that she wants a satnav from my dad for xmas which i told my dad and he said "find me one then" so now i have the fun job of finding one, she doesn't the best her only preference is a large screen i've had a look but unsure what im looking for could someone help me out please

Halfords currently have up to 50% off all their sat navs, and a further 10% on selected TomToms.

My Dad currently has a Garmin Nuvi (can't remember the number). He's a complete technophobe and really hates learning how to use gadgets. But, he loves the Garmin unit (it's one that has full Europe mapping, 'cos he needs it for work lol). It should have been about £230/£240 ish, got it in Halfords for £120. Quick looksee round online showed that to be a pretty good price (at the time) for it.

I'd strongly recommend looking at Garmin. They are pretty easy to use, and as my Dad has proven, fool proof!! And, as a plus, it hasn't tried to lead him down any footpaths/off cliffs etc etc lol

Garmin mapping is vastly superior to tomtom's mapping. Also garmin units are more reliable - I used to work in halfords and for every faulty garmin we saw, there were 6 or 7 faulty tomtoms.

I like the xl's as the screen is pretty big and clear, but the 910 has got the 20gb hard disk and can work as hands free for you phone and has voice commands. Also both can play videos but the 910 is more powerful and plays them better

I have to disagree, though my unit is a GO700, it has outlasted two Garmins my brother-in-law and my mother have had, seems to be much better built, and easier to use. Plus there's loads of free downloads from TOM TOM and the Forums.

I currently have 'the voice of the balls' directing me!

My TomTom is about 5 years old and has never let me down.
