17" alloys & Rear suspension

hi all,

ive just bought some 17" TSW alloys for my MK Punto, but im worried they might rub on the arches with too much weight. is there a way of hardening my rear sus without lowering or is there another way around this problem.

if you have the correct offset (et) you should be ok, mine are et40 plus 3mm spacers making et37 and have had no problems with rubbing

so does that mean i need some spacers, this might sound stupid but what is "et40"
