Ill try and keep this short but factual-ish

mkII punto, bought for me as a birthday present. it came from a scrapyard from a friend who owns 1. so the thing is the front door pannel speakers are, to be frank shocking. so i decided to fit some in the parcel shelf and there are no visible wires or connection boxes to wire into. i pulled back the boot lining and had a look around. the only wires i could see were in a huge bundle branching off to the rear lights, l.e.d lights above my plates etc. i was woundering if its possible to use any of these wires, or if in fact one of them is used for speakers. if this is possible it would be greatly appreciated if someone could let me know what the deailio is, thanks

your better off putting an amp in the boot and then wireing the 6x9s to the amp this way you will get the most potential out of them, running speaker wires into 6x9s un amped is almost pointless

thanks for the info, just another quick 1, the front door speakers, if i changed the standard speakers and replaced them with lets say twice the power of the origionals, would that affect my battery or anything, would they work jus off the wiring that already there ?

they would work off the wireing comeing from the headunit but again liek the 6x9s you wont be getting ful potential

it wont affect your battery at all though

cheers, at least i know now what to do , thanks for the help

Depends how much you wanna spend mate. If you want speakers in the rear, you'll have to wire them yourself. If you wanted to down the amp route, fair play, but I've got some decent Pioneer cone speakers in the rear speaker grilles wired from the head unit, and it sounds fine! Up front is where you want the sound anyway.

Get some good 17cm speakers in the doors. More or less a straight swap. All you need to change is the connection. On mine, the pink wire was positive, just solder on the connectors you need (Normally blade connectors) on the right polarity.

I'd also recommend getting a good head unit. there's no point in having anything if the thing the music is coming from is ****e!

Best of luck

Chris

Yeah scrap the 6x9's you want that kind of sound up front. Go for some decent components up front and an amp in the boot. Have a search of this section for rear speakers the reasons have been covered a fair bit. (y)

thanks guys for the info, i was thinking about just having some good quality sound in the front rather than messing around in the back. think ill invest in some decent door speakers and see how it goes from there, thanks again

Yeah i got same problem mate, its just the extremely BASIC punto, the grills for rear speakers are there, but thats it haha.

Going for some Xplod speakers, 17cm front and 10 cm at the back, all wired to the head unit.

Then if i decide on 6x9's on the parcel shelf, will do what jip0 said and stick an amp in the boot, then wire both 6x9s and 10cm to it :D

theres really no need for 6x9's if you get a nice sub in the boot and set of comps in the front

Yeah i see what you mean, but its just a money issue, im getting 6.5"s and 4"s at £50, and 6x9s would be another £50, or a 15" sub at £75

and then a 4 channel amp would be another £75 :(

(Xplod for all I.C.E. by the way to go with head unit, sort of got like OCD for having everything matching :) )

Change your head unit then. :p Sony is awful hence why they no longer manufacture ICE any more.
Just spend your money on amping up a decent set of components up front. If you plan to get a sub then there is no need for 6x9's.

Yeah but if you dont waste money on rear speakers and 6x9's then you will have more of a budget to do the fronts properly.
I would get a decent set of comps then save up for the amp for them. You can always take ICE out and install it in another car.

Although Coaxials have a bad reputation, there are some good ones out there. If you find my car thread, have a look at the ones i've got. Pioneer TS-G1702i. They were on sale at Halfords for £20, check the website, and they are really good. Nice and bassy, how I like em :p Nice and loud, and very clear. But as I said before, it depends on what you wanna spend. A good set of comps can be upwards of £60, so be prepared (y)
