Hi all.

Some interesting discussion from JRK and Bgunn on this in the past I found on a search…

Rear shock bolts, if I just replace standard with Bilstein B4.. will I have issues with the bolts being undersized?! 2017 car.

The rear bushes have looked worn for a few years, was thinking to change this year likely be advised at MOT.

I was going to order from Autodoc, ecp use a different part number but then don’t have stock and recommend another shock (which AD says doesn’t fit).

BILSTEIN - B4 OE Replacement 19-184104

If you fit the correct part
If you clean the area first
If fit the part correctly
If you torque the bolt correctly

The result will be exactly the same as when it left the factory with FCA badged shocks

Whether Marelli, AG, FCA, Bilstein are used

It’s one of those easy jobs two bolts that equally easy to get wrong

Substandard part online badged as premium oarts

Not torqued correctly

Not torqued while suspension loaded

Dirt between the matting surfaces

wrong part for wrong model or year

Ordered right part but wrong substitute part supplied

An easy list to solve then as most of those are just good practice.

Ensuring you have the correct part to begin with seems to be the most difficult!

You’re reliant on the websites VRN lookup providing the correct item. Could cross reference with the manufacturer catalogue if available online I guess.

Might as well reply to myself. Bilstein website matches the code given by Autodoc, ECP give their own part number which doesn’t allow a comparison so you’re in the dark there I think!

Correct

manufactures catalogues can normally be found by adding PDF to your search

I find them more reliable than online enter reg number

It’s handy as you see any crossover dates

I’ve attached a 2019 photo when I had the wheel off to rotate tyres front/rear and a picture today. This is the OSR showing cracking/wear. It doesn’t seem to have increased much over the past 3 years.

The NSR doesn’t have any visible cracking anywhere to this extent.
