Hi there
MOT test coming up soon. Was just checking lights etc

when I press the button on the dash, only one rear fog light comes on on the drivers side.

is this normal? or do I need to replace the passenger side one

Think thats normal, my mk1 has 2 but has 2 revers lights im told that it may have the wrong light unit on it thow.

One will get you through fine, tester probably wont notice!

either side should pass officially, the real "penalty" is having none at all! If your that worried, just change both the bulbs so you know both of them WILL work (y)

i will suggest though, take both the rear lights out and then dismantle the bulbholders from the clusters and check that theres no corrosion, rust or anything across the small metal connections. This is reffered to, and more commonly caused by a "dodgy earth" and if there is corrosion, say for example your braking and indicating, your brake light is going to conflict with the indicator, making both flash, which indeed would be an mot failure. As long as theirs no corrosion, and you sorted the bulbs out, you'll be fine... :)

this is incorrect
you can either have one on the offside or two where the other one would be on the nearside

think about it ,its to mark your car out in fog, if you only had one on the nearside and you were parked up a passing vehicle could run into the rear

I have a mk1 and it only has 1 rear fog light its a 60s but it doesn't even have rev counter so u might have a diffrent model but it might he worth checking if you do actully have 2

True, but why are you parked with your foglight on? Also, why arnt your taillights working? lol. Good point, but its abit unlikely that a foglight will be the cause of a rearend :)

MOT failure

Offside front Front postion lamp(s) not working

is he referring to the fog lights here (which are under the bumper controlled by a button inside)?

i checked all my lights and i see no bulbs out

can anyone help here

that would be your front drivers side, side light usually a w5w in in the head light cluster somewhere near the main head light
about a £1 to fix and thats playing fast and lose with your money.

Front fog lights do not form part of the MOT unless they are deemed to be dangerous to a pedestrian through broken glass or sharp edges, they do not have to work.

derekos82 key in ignition
push button to the side of it
turn key backwards
this turns sidelights on and you will see bulb out
of course it might have come back on after that speed bump on the way back from the mot

bulb required is a 501 capless 5watt

cool cheers guys

presume this is a straight forward thing i can do myself? i have the haynes manual and presume I can get the bulb at halfords?

my Mk1 had 2 rear fog lights installed when i bought it, Bujking, i have a set of mk1 clocks with rev counter for sale if your interested,
