Hi to all, new member here. I purchased a 1969 500L a month ago and have been restoring it since. I have a question about the rear engine mount. I have replaced the spring and all rubber bushings and bumpers (originals were completely rotted). The mount originally had 3 shims on both sides under the rubber bumper. Is this correct? The Fiat Factory manual and Haynes manual do not show any procedure to set how many shims should be there.
My parts book shows only one shim on each side in this position.
However, the Fiat factory manual shows a cross section through the mount, and it appears that the upper and lower bumpers should not be touching anything. Do you add or subtract shims to get to this condition? I think the upper bumper may be touching the aluminum mount housing.
Thanks,
John

Hi John, I can't answer your question but I do have an original factory parts book, which indicates not just part numbers but also how many of each part are required. For these shims there is no number indicated, which means there is no 'correct' number and the amount of shims required will vary between cars.
Cheers Roger

I have just put my "new" engine back in my 500L and I had a choice of 3 engine mounts. They all had been fitted with 3 shims on each side if that helps.

Thanks to all for your replies.

Toshi, thanks for the information. Three shims on each side on multiple mounts tells me that must be the factory set up.

I am in Tennessee about 48km (30 miles) southwest of Nashville.
