Technical Rear disc conversion

Technical Rear disc conversion

Just photoshopped the scanned bracket ,from earlier in the thread ,up to size and i see what you mean.
Why did you bother doing that? I printed out a CAD drawing full size, laid a Tempra bracket onto it, took a photo and posted it on the internet for you. Boy some people are hard to please :D

my spare time will be taken up reconditioning/preparing and spraying the calipers and mounts.Im going yellow with them which should stand out well behind new alloys!

I've just shot blasted mine. Seems in pretty good nick, just need a seal kit. I'm going with black

if i get new brackets made up,do they need to be 6mm in thickness?
How far through are you with the conversion and have you come across any other nasty suprises?

You can buy the brackets from TED Jordan on here. But I'll be mocking up my calipers onto my spare cinq over the next couple of weeks then lasering my own brackets. Tempra calipers may be a different size to the more common ones used as they are a different make and the hand brake mech is totaly different. As soon as I get them mocked up I'l let you know more info.

He he.i did all that before checking back on the thread, but thankyou anyway(y).My calipers are lucas, but they look very similar(if not identical) to the others(shown,i think, earlier in the thread),with the handbrake mechanism near the top of the caliper and fins that extend over about half of the caliper itself.
I wont get chance until the next school hols in about 3 weeks but might just wiz the hub and drum assembly off and see how it fits as my rear brakes have once again started playing up....

Can anyone tell me the diameter of the rear discs including calipers? I'm looking at a set of 14inch alloys but they look chunky (inner diameter of the wheel looks small) so not sure if rear disks would still fit inside them?

Cheers
Pete

same size as the standard front setup, 240mm plus caliper. few pics

so knowing the disc 240mm, caliper can be guestimated

Essentially, they're the same as the fronts. Do not fit rear disks without upgrading the fronts to Punto GT spec or you'll be stepping into the unknown
(and possibly off the end of the world).

If you can get the 14s on with Punto GTs, the rears will fit easily.

Doh!
Sorry, it's been a long morning, what I meant to ask was what is the size of the punto gt uprated front disc/calipers!

Rears will only be done if I can fit the uprated fronts, which is what I was concerned about fitting in the 14inch alloys. Sorry I should have started another thread really!

cheers

cheers Arc, so from that it looks like something around 32-34cm at most. Hmm think that may be too tight. The guy selling the alloys reckon's they are about 12 inch at their narrowest.

Maybe, maybe not. You mean UT brakes, front and rear or UT fronts, front and rear?

The mod is purely cosmetic as the rears don't really do anything much.

UT fronts and rears on a Cinq are no problem. UT fronts, front and rear might create problems, would add to the unsprung at the rear and, you'll have no handbrake. I know of no production cars with the same disks front and rear......

I've got UT fronts & am soon to put on HGT rears (both 240mm but UT fronts are vented).

I have gone for a more agressive pad & disc @ the front, then normal @ the back, figure this should help keep the bias healthy (an issue which has been discussed repeatedly over & over).

"The mod is purely cosmetic as the rears don't really do anything much."

Not ONLY cosmetic, as discs offer more control over locking up which Drums can suffer from & I have felt the effects of.

I've driven both back to back with no noticeable difference. Indeed, by your logic, as the car with disk/drum just had plain old stock pads and the one with disk/disk had high spec pads and disks, I should have felt it.

IIRC, the car has a brake bias device in there anyway. It would take a lot to fool that...........

I have gone for standard vented 257mm discs with greenstuff pads upfront but im going totally standard solid 240mm reardiscs and pads(when i get around to fitting them) which may or may not prove to be a decent front/rear balance.only time will tell.

I have the fronts on now with the drums still on the rear and i dont seem to suffer with any harsh drum grabbing like i used to with the original seic brakes.
The rears are just getting changed for cosmetic reasons....(and im so tired of having to adjust them)

In my opinion, the fronts were such an easy (and relatively cheap) upgrade,it should be first on the list of any seic/cinq mods.once you've done it,you will never go back(y)

I do , my Celica GT4 has 315mm vented discs all round :nerner: fronts clamped by 4 pot, rears by 2 pot callipers, though front discs are some 32mm thick, rear 20mm IIRC.

Plus my Ignis has 257mm vented front discs and,

wait for it,

wait for it,

258mm solid rears, yes you read right, the rears are bigger by 1mm lol

The last of the Rovers the 5.7L V8 ZTT's or what ever they were called had discs on rear some 15mm bigger than fronts IIRC, but this is very rare.

how much of the disc does the iggle piggle use on the rear though? on vivs rover tomcat, the rear discs are quite big.. but the hubs are big also, so the actual braking surafce is a joke!

Rear discs on Ignis are as big as front contact area wise, pad size as big as well. , no big hubs on it. Though it has electronic brake distribution linked to the ABS but then all that means is it has constantly variable brake bias.

The fronts as always do the majority of work, just replaced discs and pads after 27K, rears still look good.

And yes I did buy the GT4 there are pics of it in members motors.
