I'm wanting to clean out the rear brakes for the MOT and I've fallen at the first hurdle!
I can't get the brake drums off. They spin freely with no binding.
Is there an adjuster I need to back off or something?
(I've taken the wheel locating pins out).

On a car I used to have years ago the drum brake cover popped off after gently using a screwdriver to prise it away from the backplate. It would then click back into place. Different manufacturers have their own way of securing them.

screw bolts into the holes the wheel locating pins came out of.

That's the method. Those two holes in the drum are threaded for that very purpose. From memory, you need bolts one size larger than the wheel locating pins.

There should be no need to slacken anything off.

Hitting the drum with a hammer or trying to prise it off with a screwdriver or tyre lever is not recommended; you risk damaging something and/or hurting yourself and it probably won't work anyway.

Using suitable bolts as extracting tools works every time (well it has for me) :).
