rattling under steering column

Hello, hope someone might be able to help.My son has just bought a W reg 1.2 Punto. 12 months mot,40,000 miles, FSH. When driving over a badly surfaced road there is a lot of "rattling" under the steering column. When you drive on relatively good surfaced roads there is no sound at all. The steering is fine(light and responsive). Any ideas on what it might be.

i have had two mk2 punto's,a sporting and a hgt,my nextdoor neighbour also has a hgt punto and they all had the rattle you speak of.we have looked for the cause of it a few times but had no luck so we just had to live with it.sorry this hasn't helped you much.try posting in the punto section the people in there are quite clued up and are very helpful.

Howzit. Check your universal joints on your steering column & the rubber bearing at the top of the column under the steering wheel, I had the same problem with my uno and I replaced these parts and now it is fine. hope this helps, i don't know if your car's column is the same as mine
