Technical Rattle from the petrol cap??

Just went out for a drive after the car has been stood a couple of days because of a ignition coil failing.
I think the juddering has broken my petrol cap, it rattles like hell and its really loud.
I took it off the car and its only loose in the 'locked' position, when you turn the key to 'unlock' it seems fine.
Anyone else had this? And any advice?

Does it rattle when you dont lock it properly? Ive tried turning the key more and jiggling it but no difference! The problems of the fiat seem to be setting in!

Do you mean you can hear it rattling when driving along?
Mine randomly choose to lock sometimes and other times not. But I could never hear any rattles whilst driving. (Well apart from all the usual Fiat rattles)

That doesn't sound good. There's a rubber seal around the cap isn't there? What condition is it in? It shouldn't have anything to rattle against really...

Yeah the rubber seal is still there and very much intact. Its the actual internal of the cap. It seems as though the lock barrel has become dislodged and is loose when its locked but tight when unlocked?
Whatever it is, its very irritating!
