I've just been quoted $1333.00 aud for the radiator support crossrail on my 2006 Ducato Maxi. (part number 1334694080). In the UK the price is quoted at 56.00 quid (GBP).
Is there a cheaper way to get this part into Australia?

First of all I would remove it and see what it looks like. I had an advisory that mine was corroded when the motorhome had its annual MOT test. I bought a new one and the mechanic I use changed it. It was actually OK and just had surface rust on the underside. A bit of a rub down with emery and a coat of paint was all it needed. It might save you some time and money to do the same. They come off easily enough.

Good luck.

Thanks Maingate. I have already spoken to a local engineer and showed him the corrosion. He is happy to repair and weld up the damage if I remove it. You say it's relatively easy to get off, but where can I get instructions so I don't bust something?

There have been numerous threads on here and other forums about removing it. Basically, it is bolted at either end and possibly a few small bolts connect the front bumper to it (mine is the later version to yours I believe and is different). The radiator needs some support from above, a bit of rope will do.

If you google for a replacement, you should see a photograph of the item. They changed slightly to a different design around 2001/2002. There is not a huge difference but at least you will see how it is fitted to the vehicle which might help you.

On my 2001 it was looking rough so I got it blasted, then I welded in a few patches where it was pin holed, grinder etc and it was fine. I also drilled a couple of decent sized drain holes in the bottom, then back to get it galvanised. A final coat of black paint finished it off. The real problem is the path water takes to get to it, scuttle-battery tray-crossmember. I did a job on the battery tray as well. amazing how much water lodges on that. I have made up a plastic cover that collects the run off from the scuttle panel and directs it away so it runs off to the ground without collecting. That along with decent drain holes in the crossmember should help to cure the problem.

I'm going to to be facing this replacement shortly, thinking of buying the cheapest one off ebay, getting it 'dipped' to remove all paint, then hot galvanizing it. It is visible from the front, and will look quite 'loud' until it's been weathered a bit. But it will last then! Maybe a few small drain holes can be drilled before galvanizing too, just in case, in the lowest areas where water may collect.
