What a kerfuffle I've had trying to get a Punto key cut today!

Earlier in the week I went to a locksmiths who said he could cut the key (just so I can lock/unlock the doors) but he didn't have any Fiat blank keys. I ordered one from a guy on eBay for £6 (I posted the link earlier in this topic) and it arrived today.

I went to a locksmith a bit closer to home but he said he wouldn't even try to cut it as if he messed it up he couldn't just take another one off the shelf - fair enough I suppose. He did however reccommend another locksmith a few miles away who would have plenty on the shelf.

On the way there I decided to drop in at the locksmiths I first went to and showed him my new blank Fiat key. He said it's the wrong one.

As a last resort I went to the locksmiths that the other chap recommended. He pulled a key off the shelf and within 2 minutes and £5 later I had a key which opens & locks my doors! :)

If only I'd gone to that place first but you live & learn. (y)

As a sidenote - how the hell can a Fiat dealer charge £115 for an unprogrammed key when a locksmith can do one for a fiver???

Ahh saw it in the question then! yes blank key will open doors but not start the engine. You could always convert the ignition to a button? Not as secure but you won't need a key for it!
Hi Bredsticz, if it's not too long winded how would you convert to a push button. I think that if it's not too obvious it might even be a benefit as i'm assuming it would overide the ignition barrel and would teefs wouldn't be expecting it (dont know i'm just a naive plumber:eek:) Dont suppose the insurance company would be too impressed though.

wouldn't work on the mk2 though, immo code is integrated in the ecu and there is no way around it..
