Bodd, just read your original response in Steve's post:D:D:D

Nearly dead indeed, how old you Steve? 29? Thats geet ol that is:D

Thing is Bodd, most people on the forum like to respect the law, and have a problem with boy racer types, which is what you came across as, if your not, then fair do's.

Anyway, lets all play nice:D

Stilo TURBO!!!!(diesel)

Yeah, fair enough Bodd, just have to support my friends here.

I was too harsh on you too.

My first signiture (a lot of thought put into it): If you can't find the switch to switch your fogs off I am sure I can help you! Damn fogs.

Oh and James, those fights come looking for me I swear!

Blimey I'm glad all that's sorted out. I've got to say though I'm only 19 myself and I've never felt the need to type like that. Honestly it is a struggle to read some of them, no joke.

Anyway Paul I'm doing Computer Science which is OK but I'm not so keen on all the Maths it involves - I was hoping there would be less maths and more electronics but never mind am most of the way through the first year now.

I do enjoy a drink over at the union but like you as for pub crawls and clubbing I'm not interested. I won't try to sell the place to you but I couldn't be happier here at Loughborough I have to say. It really is amazing how first impressions count for everything because if I'd have got what you did on the open day I probably wouldn't have come either! For example I went to an open day at Brunel Uni (West London) and I thought it was terrible. The lecturers were useless and the guides sent us to the wrong rooms for the introductions, but my mate went on a diffenent day and he loved it and went there in the end.

I've never been to UMIST but I've heard it's pretty top notch. I know someone who went to Nottingham Trent Uni but that's a diffenent place isn't it I think Nottingham is higher up the league tables. Good luck with it anyway.

my mum works at Brunel in the career department its about 45 min from my home. yeah i know what u mean bit of a concreate jungle. im up at staffodshire uni and doing internet tech i hate the maths 2 iv always been lame at it.but i think the coding part is the worst feel like a zombie after a tutorial untill get down the union. have u had any cool bands at your union?

Yes tell me about it- there was concrete everywhere! It looks like they built the whole place in about 2 weeks in the 60's. I don't mind a bit of concrete but it really is everywhere there with no colour.

Sadly I have no taste in Music whatsoever - you're not going to like this but I listen to old stuff on Radio 2! The Union is great, apparently it's the biggest venue in Leicestershire and I don't know about good acts but we get some pretty big names, Girls Aloud we had in Freshers week springs to mind but I thought they were crap. I think Oasis are coming sometime soon and I guess that's pretty big, and I like their music.

yeah i like oasis im more into that sort of music than any thing else indy/rock.girls aloud im not so sure of but 1 of them is fine! well thats better than me iv had sum student bands and a lame comedian that just said f**k all the time and thought it was funny. oh well the beer hasnt let me down yet

Damn right at least they were wearing short skirts! As for the comedian, wasn't Jim Davidson was it? Not really he's OK most of the time!

Maths is one of my strengths, enjoy it a fair bit. Did further maths until yesterday (covered the whole course and now just "dropped it") to concentrate on 3 A's instead. Further maths has been too much hassle but I feel like an idiot wasting a whole year doing it and then quitting!

Dr Pepper; I believe I will be the same. I don't mind drinking, I don't go out however like the rest of my year, just doesn't interest me. I will probably be similar to you, have a drink but no clubbing. Just who I am.

UMIST is great for chem eng.

If you want the opposite of Brunel, try the first college I was going for at Oxford, Univ (University), oldest college, around 1200AD I think, so 800 years old! Was overwhelmed by it all. Either of you did A level maths out of curiosity?

Nottingham is in top 8 for chem eng (umist being 2/3 mixed with Bristol with Cambridge usually the number 1). Not sure if i want to stay in nottm however hence probably won't. My sister is already in Manchester so the transistion won't be quite as difficult as I have been there a few times. Was very impressed by the open day. Nottm Trent on the other hand is an ex-polytechnic, one of the best there is actually but still an ex-polytechnic so not one of the best. However, this is completely dependent on what course, nottm trent has one of the best primary teaching colleges in the country.

Dr Pepper, out of curosity, did you have any reservations about Uni say in y13? I ask this because I have been having doubts for about 9 months now. I know it is the best thing for me but I just find it too competitive sometimes.

I never went for Brunel because it is London of course and I couldn't afford the living costs (Oxford being acceptable to my parents because it's Oxford lol).

I know that l'borough talks a lot about its Union being one of the biggest/best but i guess that's because Loughborough isn't much of a place. DO you come to Nottingham often?

I smoked a Maclaren F1 last night in my 60s - he couldn't live with me up to 60, then I let him past... blah, blah, p*sh, more p*sh, blah, blah...

Please don't stop it - a lot of people are finding this amusing!

Here come da judge...

Just like the time i beat the 747 (was getting ahead on the straights though a little)

Yes I did maths A-Level but I only got a D that was the worst of my results. We did S1 M1 P1 in year 12 and I got a B, with P1 my worst. Then in year 13 they made us do P2 P3 p4 which were just too hard for me, I did so bad the overall mark dropped to a D. What annoyed me most was that I spent more time on Maths by far than all the other subjects put together and got a D, but I got an A in General studies where we didn't have any lessons we just turned up and waffled about crap for an hour. In theory at least these two are worth the same! Some people seem to do OK in it but I found maths just so much harder than anything else it was ridiculous.

As for Loughborough it is a good uni league-table wise but certainly size-wise is one of the biggest. It takes a good half an hour to walk from where I am (in the tower) to the other end of campus for some lectures. There are a few trips to Nottingham organised but I've not been, I have been on a couple to Leicester which is a bit nearer though. You're right about Oxford and Cambridge the history is incredible, I've been to Cambridge several times and the buildings and traditions they have are amazing, and I know it's the same at Oxford

Yes I had reservations about going to university, in fact my parents probably pushed me in the right direction here. I think you've just got to remember that it will be worth it in the long run, now so many people are going to uni it will in the future be hard to find a high end job that doesn't require a degree. I was seriously scared (literally) about actually coming here and freshers week etc but I've had a great time from the start, everyone is in the same boat. There's not a single person here from my school but so many people have the same situation it's easy to make friends.

The other thing I was worried about was the whole UCAS/Clearing thing, but when it came to it both my choices would have accepted me way lower than they said originally and I got my first choice even though I didn't make the grade. Also, some mates ended up going through clearing and it was not as bad as it sounds, there is no problem you will always be able to find what you want.

Completely unrelated to anything if you're not busy check out my website I have done recently- it would be great to have an opinion on how it looks on other computers before it gets listed in Google or anything! www.geocities.com/drpepperdionysus/pictures Any other Uni questions just ask mate. Pure overload in y13 then! Ouch!

Did the same as you for A/s, score s1 83 (how i did that badly i don't know, was on for more but hated it), m1 97 very pleased obviously and p1 91, pleased again. This year we do P2, P3, S2, done S2, got 95 in Jan. So need 57/57 in P2/P3 to get an A. Was doing further maths A/S, P4, D1 (a joke of a module!) and M2. Found it wasn't helping me and stopped. Probably a bad long term decision but it's made me less stressed.

I am exacrtly the same, for me, I probably do as much work per module in maths as I do for my other A levels combined. With further maths included I felt I was doing 7 A levels! I am not a natural mathematician but a slogger and this made P4 difficult. P4 is a massive step up from P3 in terms of the natural ability you need to have and that little sparkle. I don't have those to a high level.

Sounds like your school gave your a hard time doing those modules, it's probably because they don't have good Stats teachers. The two that do stats 2 in my school are excellent, IMO (even though I hate mine), if all they did was teach S2 they are worth it. Out of my class of 15, 14 got As (80+) in S2 and one high B. How annoyed she was about that B i don't think she will ever say.

When you say the tower at L'borough do you mean whitworth tower? ( i think that is the name of the place i am thinking of). I stayed just close to there in (i think) Faraday Hall in one of those terrace style halls of residence. The worst thing I remember was how dreadful the food was IMO, comparing it with St. Andrews Uni where I also did a residential trip and UMIST where I had lunch I was horrified! Loved the campus in some ways but knew I would probably hate living in it for too long. Not putitng you down however, what suits me might not suit you obviously.

Oxford was a grand place and St. Johns (my first choice college) was amazing, richest of the lot and had amazing new beautifully made buildings. I arrived late in the evening however and got thrown in a scabby little room that looked unused for 30 years and forgotten about in a late December evening. I hate that whole interview section there.

Glad it's not just me with reservations about Uni, my friends don't tlak to me about it much, just like to show off about how cool it will be when they can get "plastered" and no one will care.

I hate the way Uni's state higher grades as a typical offer and then say it's ok for practically anything. It is unfair on the person who with CCC instead of BBB decided that course was too hard for them even though most of the intake had CCC. I spoke to the UCAS admin lady at York and she said all uni's state higher grades to make their courses look better and hence why they do it.

What's essex like, I have a friend who has it as his second choice behind Warwick (i think)?

Enough talking, I should be getting some sleep.

Paul

Mornin Paul well with marks like that I don't think you have anything to worry about getting in anywhere - 83% in stats I don't know how you can say that was bad I wouldn't have said no! Is 83% really not an A grade I thought it would be.

My school was quite small, we had only one teacher for the whole subject and I guess he preferred Pure Maths so that's what we did. Having said that he was a maths machiene, really knew his stuff. I just found A-level such a massive step up from GCSE where I got an A* pretty easily, then I think my ability in the subject just ran out!

About Loughborough the Whitworth building is in the student village where most out the halls are including Faraday. Faraday is actually one of the newest halls but I don't like it because the rooms are so small. I'm in Towers Hall which is right at one end of campus - a big 60's tower 20 stories high. I like it though cos although it's older the rooms are three times the size. I'm on the 1st floor so I don't even have any stairs to climb.

About Essex I assume you mean the Uni I only went there once it is not bad at all - It's quite modern in terms of buildings etc and has loads of green space which is something there isn't here. I didn't really consider it because it's only 45 min drive from my home so I would have ended up commuting there - saving loads of money but you don't get the same experience. Works for some people though. As for Essex in general it's a good place to live, plenty of stuff to do and handy for working, London is only 30mins away by train.

Just reading thru the replies to this post and I agree with everyone who enjoys showing those nova drivers how to race, puntos are quick for their engine size definately, I have beaten a fair few people, mine's just a 1.1 with a few engine/exhaust mods but still gives other 1.2/1.3s a run for their money, but another quick car is the micra, my mates got a 1.1, yeah they look crap and girlie but s**t theyre quick. Just one thing tho, BigStu said he beat Subaru's, Civic typeR's, and Audi TTs in his Fiat Coupe.....not sure if thats possible, standard Subarus maybe, but the Turbo's, especially p1s and wrx, would smoke a Fiat Coupe.
