I am going to try one more thing before i give up on this, i am going to try disconnecting the +ive from the battery to try and reset the ecu as i have read on other posts on this forum that this can help.

the reason for this is that when i am turning the car over the code light and the injector light doesnt go off and the question i am asking is how long do i leave it off for and is it ok to try and start the car with the air filter box off, ( mine is broken)

I think its half an hour, but I'd just take it off on a night and leave it till morning... A mate of mine told me that taking off the + and - terminals and VERY briefly touching them together also resets the ECU, but you gotta be careful as you can burn components out doing this...

You should be fine to start the car with no airbox but dont drive it. You dont want leaves/seeds/birds/cats being sucked into the engine do you. :)
 
have tried the red key and also the blue key and it still isnt starting, have left the battery off for an hourish and then reconnected and nothing has changed,

still have the code light and the injector light on, is the white relay supposed to click
 
not sure what you mean but my first post is under title puzzled with punto explaining everything from the start and then carried on in this post, sorry if confusing.
I have no spark anywhere and no fuel into the chamber, have used another fuel relay and anything else that i can find on the forum to help.

I am willing to try anything that anyone suggests
 
I have put a brand new crank sensor on, that was the first thing i tried after reading this forum
 
i understand the principle of suck squeeze bang blow, but this is my first punto and never had this problem on any other car i have owned.

I joined the forum to find some help with the car not starting, but it seems that nobody can suggest anything other than that i have already tried.

I appreciate all the help and answers that i have had, i was just hoping that it was a simple problem to solve
 
wow urs wont start either lol mine died 3 weeks ago and wont start,wen i got it running injector light and battery light were on,didnt start up agen after i turned it off tho :s also a punto puzzle!!!
 
its been a while since I had a Mk1 but isnt there a cut off switch at the side of passenger seat???, unlikely I know but might be worth a try.
just one more thing I know it seems to be more of a lack of spark ,but check fuel filter if leaking slightly it might be drawing air into system.

when this lovely rain/sleet/snow stops i am going to check all the earths again, does anyone have a list of where they are and what are they connected too
 
also what is the inertia switch meant to look like? i know where it is but it the switch meant to be down or up and would this cause all the other problems i am having
 
UPDATE:
have had my son in laws punto here and have tried my tdc sensor in his and is fine, starts and runs no problem, and vice versa so i know it is not that at fault. could it be the master relay at the back of the bulkhead, i cannot try his as it is a different fitting.
 
If the code light is staying on then its the immobiliser stopping the fuel and the spark. Could just be the reader on the ignition switch or something else, but i would try another ecu set (need the ecu, ignition barrell, black box and the key).

The inertia switch is just a fuel cut off not for the spark. to reset it just press the button next to the passenger seat. It doesnt click or anything.

Thank you for that, I have ordered another ecu and lock set in the hope that will fix the problem,
is there anything i should look for or be careful of when fitting, do i have to reprogram the ecu
