Hi all, I bought a new Phillips headunit yesterday and a wiring kit and tried fitting it all yesterday. It didn't work the first time round, so swapped the ignition and continuous cables over on the wiring kit. This allows the radio to come on and operate normally, but when you turn the ignition on or open a door, the headunit switches off and refuses to turn on again until ignition is switched off or the door is closed. The wiring loom in the car has 5 plugs and the kit also has 5 plugs, but they do not match up so there are some plugs on the car's wiring that aren't connecting to anything and vice versa. Has anyone ever had this problem or ever heard of it? Its driving me mad!

I take it you haven't wired the canbus system in

Should only be 3 wires from the cars loom, not 5!

Yea i agree - you may even have 4
Constant Live +
Constant earth -
Ignition Switched +
Remote lead

So if yours is like mine i have 6 wires
as i have a Pink/white and pink/black Canbus wires

Never touch the 2 together, and never use them to connect to the switched ignition feed. They transmite data NOT power

On the new wiring loom I've got:
Earth - black
Constant power - yellow
Ignition power - red
Illumination/dash (don't think this is used tbh) - orange
Power antenna - blue

The new head unit has only 4 plugs so I think the orange lead is redundant. I've also got 2 loose wires on the rear of the HU for remote and telephone mute, but I won't be using either of them. I'm not even bothered if the HU is constantly on as I'll be taking the front off of it every time I leave the car. Seems strange that it will power up when the leads are a certain way around and switches off as soon as the door is opened or ignition is switched on.
I've seen 3 different solutions to it on here (swapping red and yellow wires over, crimping red and yellow wires together, running a lead from the cigarette lighter) so am unsure of which is best/less hassle. I am not fussed about it turning on and off with ignition or anything like that, just want it to turn on full stop!

issues with Crimping both together it'll generate alot of heat = Risk of fire
and tbh it doesn't sort the issue as you risk flattening the battery

swapping them over means it's always on = Flat battery

since you have a Red and yellow - it means you dont have the canbus system
It usues the best way to get the car setup

it sounds like your ignition is telling it to switch off and that it untill door is closed or you reset the ignition

And at this point - im affraid i cant help you no further

Haha, thanks anyway. I gave up all hope and took it to Halfords and the audio guy there fitted it. He has run a wire from the fuse box he said and it all works good and proper. Might be 30 quid I didn't want to spend, but at least it's all working and I've got peace of mind the car won't die!
