Hi everyone! I have an issue with my fiat punto 2004 1.2 8v where the engine cranks but does not start. The car has a new battery and has been running fine since until last week when I went to start it and it kept turning with no life coming to the engine.

I have had it looked at briefly and the mechanic seemed to think it could be a bad fuse box. Could it be? What checks would I do to find out if it is the fuse box?

The car doesn’t have much fuel in it also but if there are any checks I can do myself any advice would be great!

Cheers!

Sorry Can't be much help here but interested to see what you find.

Had a similar issue with my HGT recently, turning fine, but no spark - issue came out of nowhere. AA called out, he sprayed carb spray (or whatever they use) in the intake and it still didn't play.

Hooked it up to his reader and it reported as a cam sensor error. 10 minutes trying to locate the sensor & then suddenly it decided to fire up. He was pretty puzzled by it too, said the spray normally does one of two things, fires it up, or fires it up then it'll cut out.

He said not to trust it, & it would likely happen again so took it into a fiat specialists that night.

It didn't! They checked it & drove test it thoroughly and its still a mystery right now. Maybe a coincidence but I had just fitted a new battery that weekend too.

Fiat garage said the cam sensor wouldn't normally stop it from firing anyway, crank sensor yes, but not the cam.

You able to check it for any errors?

No start issue....

Check if you have sparks and fuel injected. If any of these missing, car won't start. So.. check at the fuel pressure valve, with lots and lots of towels and cloth. If you have fuel coming out, then it should be good.
If not, you need to test your fuel pump.

Check your sparks. Main reason for no sparks is a bad crankshaft sensor.
You also need good spark plugs, cables and coil pack. So if you haven't changed them in the last 40k km, then do it now.

Had a same issue with my 2001 1.2 8V.
I checked engine rpm with multiecuscan in starting and it showed zero.
Had not any trouble codes.
The crankshaft sensor was broken (infinite continuation)
I replaced it and has run fine since.
