around a fiver for a key with transponder - any locksmith should be able to cut it.

Then get it programmed[/quote]

How much would the programming cost?

Everyone here says only fiat can do it - and the cost would depend on the garage.

But I've got a immo programmer that states it can program them, but it would still need the key card from fiat and they will still charge to get it.

I've just lost my spare key to my Alfa 156. It uses the FIAT code2 system. We don't have an Alfa dealership in Blackpool or even Preston anymore so I went to my local FIAT dealership which is now 75% KIA :yuck:

They want for a non remote key, £192+VAT and for a remote key £233+VAT.

Been doing some research and companies other than dealerships say on their websites that they can do the keys. Not got any quotes yet though, will continue to research.

I have a question, might be a bit daft but i will ask anyway.

I have one key for my car, looks very worn and not opening the locks and does not start the ignition easily.

If I was to get a couple of cheap blanks cut and that would open the doors and turn the ignition, would I be able to dismantle the old worn key, take out the chip and glue or attach it to an area around the the ignition switch

Surly then when I used a new unprogrammed key in the ignition it would reckonise the chip and enable the car to be start.

Told you it sounds daft but has anyone any answers.

Cheers
Andy

Yes of course you can do that, the immo is basicly redundant then.
Dont forget to remove the new transponder from new key.
Also if you have a worn key copied, you will have another worn key!.
Best if you get the key information from Fiat or your code card and have the key cut to code by one of the better auto locksmiths.
Tony.

Why not read the replies to you previous post then you'd already have the answer to that

What if I took the original chip out of my key, that looks as though its about to break, and glued it to an area around the ignition barrel. Then cut some cheap blanks. Would I be able to use these to start my car. Surley it should reckognise that there is a valid chip in the area.

I hope I dont sound daft, lol

Cheers

Sorry to the previous person, I am quite new to this forum and could not find my previous question

How close to the igniton barrel does the chip have to be? just thinking of other ideas.

Thanks

quite close, although the ring that picks up the transponder could be moved, but do not leave the transponder in the car for reasons mentioned in the other thread.

Hi!

First post here, as can't seem to figure out my key question!! I'm sorry if it's is answered somehwere else - I rooted fairly hard!

I'm buying a 2002 MK2 punto tomorrow from a general second hand dealer.

It comes with 2 blue keys. Only the first starts the car. The second will open the car and turn the ignition, but the car just "chuggs" and won't actually ignite (IYKWIM).

A fiat dealer told me (over the phone) that it sounded like the key just needed to be re-coded and that I should insist that my dealer does this before I buy. He said it should be about €70, So off I went back to my dealer.

My dealer called me today and said that any fiat dealer he has been talking to has quoted about €240??!! and so is unwilling to have it done for me because of this expense.

Anyone got any ideas?

Should I be able to "copy" the second key off the first with the red key strategy discussed on other threads? (ie, turnign to MR then switching keys etc etc)

I suppose I feel it would be great to have a 2nd working key - particularly as my partner could then have a copy etc etc.

All help would be gratefully received!!

Thanks!

Talk to the Fiat guy again and get it verified that he can do it, then negotiate the €70 with the "dealer".
They cant be copied.
Tony.

if you get that kit they'll open the doors but wont start the car.

You'll still be left with only the one key

If you can't get the key coded at least make sure you get the keycode card, this will allow you to start the car with the key thats not programmed by following the emergency startup procedure in the manual.

I do Still Have Both Keys :) (i do believe both mine work)
But I was going to make it Remote central Locking (Its Just a Punto 3dr 1.2)

But obvs, if i tried to start car the Key Code Light would just stay on?

However if i got a keycode card - Would i be able to program the new fobs/Keys and Still Keep the originals?

And Did fiat ever put the code down somewhere like in the glovebox or on the Key Barrels themselves?

using the keycard you could start the car with the remote kit, but you wouldn't want to do it on a day to day basis, only in emergency hence the name. As if you stall etc you got to do it again.

No fiat do not leave the code lying around else it would render your car without an immo.

And no you could not program keys with the keycode card unless you've got a programmer that can do it, in which case you could using the card.

You options are remove the transponders from the keys and put them in the kit keys.

or buy the transponders put them in the kit keys and get them programmed.

FIAT removed the code cards from all vehicles upon import so as to appease the UK insurance companies. Hence we don't the option of the emergency start unless you've had everything coded to a new code card.

Yes, you'll need to pop down to fiat with your documents and request the card, heard they charge around £15 for it.

for sure, you are correct there . i have approx 20 all keys lost jobs a week and am constantly amazed at the amount of people who have been driving around for a year or more with only 1 key ,
generally speaking on a spare key its only between £30 to £120 for a spare key to be programmed. That can go ballistic! ,when all keys are lost on some vehicles .make sure you get 2 keys for any fiat ,or you risk a hell of a bill
I have a mk2 pnto with 1 key so is it easy to get a couple of spares made and how much roughly should this cost . Am I right in thinking there is no need to go to fiat dealer at all.
