Technical Punto Mk2 Active 8v 1.2 2002 won't start

Hi,

I have an issue with my Punto. It was always starting fine without any problems. Few months back it started failing to start - it was just turning for ages and there was completely no response. Then the next day it would start with no problems, first time. After sometime the same thing happened but then it would not start for a few days. Then again the same thing - started the first time. Now a new issue appeared - starter was not turning at all. You would turn the key, all the dashboard lights would come on but there would be no response from the starter. Yet again, after a few days it would start fine and run without any issue for weeks. Eventually it stopped starting. Battery is brand new.

After reading dozens of posts about similar issues i thought it might be the ground wire issue. I tried wiring the negative with the engine/gearbox/chassis but there was no change. I tried jump starting but again the same outcome. If that was an issue with ground shouldn't it jump start?

Two more things I will try is to check the fuses and bump start it to eliminate the starter fault.

Any ideas? Thank you in advance!

try hitting starter with a hammer, could be just stuck

when jump starting doesnt work its usually starter motor, so just replace it and you are good to go

bump starting will work normally tho

I'd give the Positive cable feed TO the starter motor a good check

why?
old mk2 did this
turns out the cable was wearing thin
Till one day the cable split after starting and driving fine one day, got in after work
it barely started and was on a charge state....
