Hi, I'm new to the forum, my girlfirend has a 2004 Fiat Punto 1200 petrol with manual gearbox I dont know any more about the spec other than its metallic blue and does millions of miles to the gallon compared with my car.
In the past few weeks a clicking sound that seems to be either drivetrain/gearbox related has got steadily worse. She is now worried about driving it as she has do a 50 mile round trip to work every day. I initially thought it might be a drive shaft but its only when the car is in drive it never varies dependant of fluctuation of speed or cornering/braking etc, its almost as regular as a tappet sound but obviously it never varies in terms of the speed so it can't be the engine itself.
Obviously my self diagnosis is a bit vague as I'm not a Punto or indeed a front wheel drive car owner. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I hope to check the gearbox oil tomorrow night and jack it up to see if there is anything visibly wrong under there. I realise its hard to give a diagnosis without seeing or hearing the noise buts its possible it could be a common fault that one of you kind people may be aware of.
Many thanks
Steve
