Hi got a 2004 Fiat punto 1.2 active.
New Shape.

Have a problem with the wipers.

Get in turn the ignition on and the wipers do one intermittent wipe. stopping half way don the screen. the same type of wipe as if you click onto intermittent then back to off.

the wipers work fine but don't stop at the bottom.

Have changed the wiper motor out of a working car.
Have changed the stalks not sorted.
have checked all the earth's I can find.

I have been looking on line and had read that it is a controller board behind the dash board with the OBD connector on. this as far as i know is the ECU.

can anyone tell me where the problem is or how to fix it. I need to get this sorted for a customer and am now stuck, I have been quoted for the ECU by fiat £350 plus VAT and it needs to be programmed to the car.

I am hoping its just a relay.

Thanks in advance Peter.

Sounds like the arm on the motor is put on in the wrong place, undo 10mm nut, remove arm, operate wiper and wait till stops, move arms to bottom of screen and refit arm to wiper motor, should sort. Be careful though, if in wrong place will wipe bonnet and cause damage.

the problem is described above. its that the wipers swipe every time you turn the ignition on. I have tryed motors and new stalks. and the earth points. the wipers move just over two swipes each time then stop .. next time they swipe they stop a little further across the screen.

Is it the correct motor for the year? There's a difference between the mk2 and 2b wiper motors which cause them to park incorrectly if fitted to the wrong model.

Right I did stupidly try a motor off a 2003 53 old model, the part numbers were the same. I have just checked and the old motor as I have now removed it for closer inspection.

Its got part number Denso TGE 511 or 60511005
I cant find out what the real part number should be even doing a wide google search and fiat are not telling me what the part numbers are or even if there the same...

it has been replaced with a scrap yard part in te past. I can tell this because it has Punto Fiat in white paint on the arm.

I have also checked the wiring diagram on autodata for a difference between the old and new wiring. the only difference seems to be the green wire that looks like its the stop sending power signal .

can someone tell me a true part number please. ebays full of punto front wipers 1999 - 2009 which by this thing is not correct.

:bang::bang:
:cry::cry:

Try cleaning out the switch box on the old motor. It might work fine.

When testing a motor, take the arms off and put some tippex on the spindles to mark the correct park position. That way you wont mangle your wipers and car body paint.

I have already swapped the motors over from a car with the same part number and the 04 car still has the fault. the motor works fine in a 2002 52 punto.

I have taken the air bag off changed the Wiper stalk for a fully working one,

I have changed all the relays in the fuse box and checked all the earths.

All that is left is the wiper motor being wrong for the year of car. but i need a part number so i can order the right one, there are 10 stalks, and nearly as many part numbers for the motors as far as i can tell.

or the ECU, which would mean new locks new keys new ecm for the ht packs, and a major pain in the rear end for me and the owner.the car has only done 54k and I have had to sort so many things. it to the point if he spends any more his car would need a free gold plate to recover the costs.

the other Idea is scrapping the car on public display by dropping it onto a fiat forecourt with a crane.

Right after finding next to nothing anywhere regarding this problem.

the solution. new motor. different part number typical, its the first thing i tryed but i tryed it with a 2003 motor, from a pre face lift model.

sorted, at bloody last, new stalks new motor and hours tracing and checking wires, and cleaning earths.

Funny that, I found two seperate threads within 5 mins using the Search function...

;)

I searched google and then the fiat forums again and again. I couldn't find any if the posts I searched for wiper ignition. Wiper problems. Windscreen wiper not working. Wipers stopping. Ignition wipers start. And all sorts of other things. And all the posts I found were the standard wipers linkage snapped or people saying to change the board behind the fusebox or stalks.

Wish you had replied to my first post two months ago. Before I spent a fortune and hours trying to sort this.

Anyway at least it's sorted.
