Hi all, i know PSP's have been discussed already, but just wanted a little info from anyone that knows please.

Ive been offered a PSP brand new, unused and its the Giga pack.
It has no games with it. How much would this normlly cost?

Can you download games for these and if so where from?

Im not sure what version it is, but a disk thatswith it says it has the 2.0 software upgrade on it.

ok i think they are 149 new now...

bare in mind the 2.0 update can be downgraded to 1.5 and therefore run boot loaders :p

You can get a 4gb HD that fits on the back but it ain't cheap!

It's more of a media approach the hacking bit i.e. using the psp for movies and mp3's, the games ain't that big so you can stick'em in your pocket.

Suppose but not certain you can get emulators for this eg arcade, sega, nintendo etc with smaller games hence making the hacking bit not so bad.

If you go to Settings/system settings/system information, this'll tell ya what firmware version your using.,.,
as for playing copied games, at the moment its only really for the hardcore type, as it is pretty complicated and downgrading your firmware is dangerous to the PSP.
also most of the new games carry a an update built in so you'll have to altering the psp to play new games(if they can crack them).,,
also sony will be releasing an 8gb memory card for the psp soon.,.

it's actually not as hard as it used to be, all you do now is run a program that basically emulates firmware, so the update is never actually put on to the psp, it is loaded in to the RAM (temporary) games are uploaded usually a week or two before they are released.

and about the emulators... they suck. to be honest, it's worth actually buying the games...

Well i think ill be getting it as i may be going to start working away soon and so may come in handy.

Ill look around for info/downloads and post what i find here for anyone else thats interested. (y)

I dont really know much about wireless networks, so can someone suggest a cheapish one that will work ok with my PSP ( supports 802.11b ) and be reasonably safe from people "piggy backing" my connection.
good places to get one from would be a bonus.

Cheers all. (y)

at home we're using argos's cheapest (at the time) router which is a d-link something or other which tbh isn't great but works well enough for us. once you got that sorted out you can then use your psp on the web which isn't too bad apart from entering text takes ages.
good games on psp include; NFS carbon; own the city (great online multiplayer too), GTA (any of them), Colin mcRae isn't too bad and there's quite a few others which are worth getting. the games are better than a DS with a few exceptions. so really it's the best portable games console.

Ok, so you know you can get blue-tooth dongles yeah......can you get the same sort of thing but WiFi?, as i would have thought this wuld be a fair bit cheaper than a full wireles networkk thingamy?

So a quick look around has shown that wifi usb dongles are easy to get hold of.
But, is 54Mbps rate quick enough to do online gaming?

Dont know much about these, or what makes a good en or bad en, so any advice welcome. (y)

Yes should be fast enough. You will get better security with a proper wireless router though, and probably easier set up. I have a Belkin router and its fantastic, it was recomened to me, works first time with the PSP, has a built in firewall. Since I got it a lot of people have said that they are pleased with their same router. Also with a dongle you would need to have the PC turned on to use the nextwork, with a router you can access the net with the PC off.

I have my psp completely hacked - even to the point of having different icons, fonts and loading screens.

It can be dangerous, but their is a hack to put a re-boot config program on it, so once that is on there, you can always restore the unit regardless of what you do to it or what you put on it.

Some games are quite big, but they can all be made smaller (GTA vice city stories, for exmaple, you can get rid of the radio stations whcih saves a suprising amount of space)

It can be annoying if you dont have a big menory card, i only use a 2mg card, but i have some software whcih enables you to connect a lap top hard drive, which obviously provides a shed load of space.

It helps having a mate who writes programs for the psp though!!
