Technical proxy alignment problem with MultiECUscan

I recently swapped the VP1 radio my wife's 2016 500 Pop Star for a VP2 as DAB reception is so much better than FM in our area. Radio is great but of course this resulted in the dreaded flashing milometer. Hence purchased MultiECUscan kit to do a proxy alignment. This resulted in:

Any suggestions what "request out of range error" means please?

As an aside - Despite not having the Blue&Me module, the Bluetooth in the VP2 unit pairs with my mobile and has everything for hands-free calls apart from the microphone. I am aware that the 500 microphone has an amplifier somewhere. I tried connecting an old Blutooth microphone to the relevant pins on the connector (30 & 40) but it didn't work and MultiECUscan said the resistance was too low. Can anyone suggest a fix please?

Assuming yours is a blue and me can (pre facelift) you will need to disconnect the blue and me module and then set your steering wheel buttons to something other than 8, 6 leaves it working the radio volume but if you’ve changed to a non can radio you may need to set it to none. This then stops the flashing when you proxy align.
Hope it helps, even if the blue and me module doesn’t work it still knows there’s one there if it’s connected, the button change and proxy align is what then tells the car no blue and me.

do the 2016 have u connect ? I think so @typecastboy you have had some experience with facelift any ideas? I have no idea on face lift cars!

Thanks Smeagol - Tried the above but car appears not to have the Blue&Me module. Also could not find how to change the steering wheel buttons.

The car is a facelift model, but being a relatively modest trim level only had a VP1 FM radio. It has simple steering wheel controls (which work with the new VP2 radio) and a usb port. MultiECUscan finds the new module and an error check says 'microphone open circuit' and 'no comms with parking assist' as expected as these don't exist. During proxy alignment the radio module is found, but after some time it says 'Failed - Request out of range error'. I must say I expected swapping one Fiat radio for another to be relatively simple!

Sorry, a bit late to the party. Yes 2016, assuming a Facelift and not old stock of pre-facelift uses uConnect not Blue & Me. You can use any of the latest head units including those edge to edge top Johnny ones with Apple Car Play, however, there is some coding you have to do using MES. I've not done it, but the stereo will work but Car Play doesn't display until you do this bit of coding. Haven't done it myself but if you join the Abarth Owners Club FB group, in the files section there is apparently the instructions there how to do it. It's not difficult so I've been told. It's saying it's missing, because it is. Part of the process of the coding is doing a Proxy Alignment I believe.

VP1 is a double DIN so most likely is a facelift. So sounds like you're on the right track there - my late 2015 595 is a pre-fl with a single DIN and that does have Blue&Me.

Many thanks Typecastboy. I will give this a try tomorrow. I must say I was unaware of the need to change the proxy coding! I see the Abarth example is a different model of radio so I am assuming I leave some fields as 00 - e.g the Abarth logo, Carplay etc.?

I've never done it myself but, yes the VB2 is a different all singing, all dancing model. As long as you save your original coding so you can revert should it all go wrong, you should be safe. Let us know how you get on.

After the error message click disconnect then click the pdf icon and it generates a report telling you at the bottom which byte is wrong and the max scale for the byte.

Many thanks for all the advice. Problem now solved. Discovered the advice given by shabbs in another thread and it did the trick. For the VP2 unit byte 123 (DAB) needed to be C5 not D5.

I've just started a new thread with a similar problem. I'm wondering whether all I need to do is change byte 12 to C5 and then it will work. I also need to change the Abarth logo to the Fiat, anyone know which code I need to change and what to?

This will open a window with sort of a HEX editor. Find byte 65, this is the byte that sets the display type.

The following values are known
00 : Lounge/Pop
20 : same as 00 but with slightly different font
40 : Sport. It has a turbo boost gauge
60 : Abarth

Change the value, press OK and do a Proxy Alignment.

I may have mixed up some things here. The instructions above are for changing the logo on the TFT speedo. Not sure if the radio gets the information from the same location. (I wasn't aware that the radio also shows a logo)

I assume (tricky I know) that the information wether it's a "Sport", "Abarth", or something is stored in the body computer and this info finds it's way to the dash and radio. My preFL radio says "Abarth" when started as well. I doubt the radio is intelligent enough to detect this on it's own but is provided with this info during a proxy allignment.

Actually it's not. The logos are stored within the stereo as the same stereos are used in all trims of the car whether it be a Lounge or a Turismo etc. There are 5 to choose from and depending on the particular byte value depends on what it shows. The Proxy data on teh BCM just tells the stereo which one to show.
