I've never done a proxi alignment so can't help much - looks easy enough to do with MES though. What I'd like to know is how prone to catastrophy is the procedure? I've read that, under certain circumstances it's possible for the ECU to be wiped and if the relearn/recognition of ecus fails during the procedure then you're absolutely stuffed. For this reason it seems it's advisable to always make a backup of the system before starting to do the realignment. If it all goes pear shaped you can then use that to reinstate your starting point. Is this true and if so exactly how is it accomplished?

I think you would be unfortunate for something to go wrong
I would prefer a USB cable over a bluetooth one as radio can be subject to interference and you don't want comm's to drop while flashing any device
But here is a simple guide that might help along the way should you decide to try or need a proxy alignment at some point

I did a proxy alignment on my daughters 500 when I replaced the cluster due to pixelation of the little screen in the center

Bought a licence for MES ( €50 ) and bought a USB vlinker FS cable ( €35 ) on Amazon
I have a dell Laptop with Windows 11
also I had bought a collection of the different colour OBD cables on alixpress for accessing the different can bus on modules the Fiat knowing that some day they might come in useful

Use the Yellow Adapter
MES identified the Vlinker USB without issue

MES 1.jpg

In MES
Pick your make Model and engine
Pick Body
Pick Can Setup / Proxi Alignment
Daughters 500 is a 2015 so I picked 2014+
Click Connect

Click on Adjustments
Proxi Alignment should be Highlighted
Proxi Alignment.jpg

While on this screen
Now make a back up of the Proxy alignment
On your keyboard press Ctrl + Alt +C at same time and a new window will appear

Custom proxy.jpg

Drag your mouse over the numbers and highlight all of them
Right click and copy

On the PC open Notepad
Right click on the notepad document and paste the text
Save the notepad doc somewhere in case there are any issues
Close off notepad
Go back to MES and click on Execute on bottom right
Follow prompt's to ensure ignition is on
Hopefully completes without error / Issues

Thanks, that's very interesting. So, having made the copy and saved it, how would you then go about reinstalling it if the Alignment failed?

By the way, completely on board re using a wired connection - I have the multiplexed connection - I much prefer the security it affords compared to a radio connection (bluetooth or whatever).

I would imagine
In proxy alignment hit ctrl + alt + c
That will open the custom proxy window
Click in the box then hit backspace to wipeout / erase the text

Open notepad and copy the text from the doc you made earlier
Paste in to the custom proxy window and hit execute

I just tried it in simulation MES

There are an awful lot of cheap Chinese buletooth ELM knock off's out there
Whatever about reading data from various ecu's I would not fancy writing data to something over a flaky connection and hope you dont get a phone call on your mobile mid stream :)

Thanks. I think I understand what you're saying here - I'm a bit of a dinosaur with computery stuff. Hope I never have to do it!
