Hello, I am a new A500 owner and has so far only driven the car on ice and snow roads, so I really look forward to spring and to test the car on dry asphalt:)

Since I live in cold Norway with a lot of snow and heavy use of salt on the roads in order to melt the ice, I wonder if anyone knows how the Abarth500 is protected against corrosion/rust etc? I am thinking of getting a extra protection by using for example Tectyle.
Any experiences?

Oh, yes.. I have the same problems, actually been a bit too cold for salt a few weeks here..

Might be worth seeing if anyone has had issues with rust/corrosion on the base Fiat500.

In my experience most modern cars are pretty good these days especially compared with 20-30 years ago when Fiat was legendary for rusting rapidly.

On older cars i've used a mixture of bitumen based underseal and waxoil to seal and protect in the past.

I'm in the UK and generally wash the car well paying attention to the underside once the weather improves.

Regards, Neil

Hi

I am from Norway also (Bergen) and my 500 1.2 has had a Tectyl treatment. I am buying a new Abarth this summer and that will also get the Tectyl treatment (just hope they are a bit less messy than the guys that did my 500 1.2.. messed the wheels and stuff real good, took ages to get off.)

Where in Norway are you from? Any pictures of the car?

Most of the chassis on modern cars, certainly all the Fiats, are totally dipped during manufacture so I don't think its chassis issues that will cause problems, more exhaust and other exposed components.

My exhaust mounts are rusty after 2000 miles and some light British rain!
