Hello,

My name is Grant. I have been driving for a year now, My first and only owned car is a 02 Punto go edition , it had 56 on the clock when i had it , it now has 73 . I also do change regally every 6k. :D

I plan to do it up and make her work properly so far i'v had a new gasket, new engine pump, new fuel pump, new starter motor, I had the leeds changed on her late last year, new exhaust , new hand brake cables on each side,as well as spark plugs. Im changing the plugs this week. I take it to a garage i well know.

so labour is pretty cheep just need to pay for the parts. And also i have put a 2nd wiper unit in because the last one kept latching off

I have no experience on how to work on car engines. :worship:

so can anyone tell me what other things i can do to try and make sure that there is no failure or brake downs

anyway I was driving my car this morning the power steering cut out ?? i turned the engine on and off it worked agin ???  , I also notised so rust growing ONLY on the bottom side of the driver's door :bang:

Another frustrating thing is a yellow light bulb comes on when ever i brake ? the brake lights do work !!! , so are the brakes wearing down ?? but i feel that they work fine ?:bang:

Anyone out there who can help me by giving me some tips and points in what way to go on trying to keep my fiat for a long time, as i want to do her up

and what are the common faults on these

Regards

Grant .

Hi Grant, and welcome,
I've goa similar 1.2 2002 punto , had a couple now,

Faults = Head gasket,Wier assembly, power steering, water pump + LOSING KEYS,

you've covered MOST of that already...,

Power Steering uses a LOT of battery / electrical power,
MY tip = when you start up , let ALL of the test lights go out , then start the car that way everything is all set for driving , if the steering STILL messes about consider a battery / charging system check.

MY 1.2 will ALWAYS knock-out the steering if I turn the key instantly without it doing it's checks , works 100% otherwise,

Headgaskets are an issue - but you've done that,

re your brake light.. check that its not a low brake fluid level ,

other than that - look after it and enjoy it,

Charlie

Waterpumps are only an issue if they aren't changed at the service schedule tho

Never ONCE had a problem with water pumps

Anyway
Coil Packs - Fail causing a bad misfire
ECU failure - Fails to tell coil pack to spark
E-Power steering - Low/weak batterys make light come on, torque sensor fails = new coloumn
Wiper Linkages - water logged due to no scuttle pannel drain
Ball joints drop off - fixed with a washer or £3 ebay clip

The Common but not as common
Clutch slipping after new clutch = Input seal blown - rebuild + new clutch
Drums seize/dont self adjust = Lack of maintaince
Airbag Interferance detected = Wiring loom from fiat + FES to reset
Flat battery = After market stereo not wired correctly
Flat battery = Alternator regulator remains active after switch off
Maincat holes/rusting off - Lack of maintance, catch it early or have it welded
Rear floor pan rusting / holes - Lack of maintance, welded up and protected
